we make our dogs"GO LAY DOWN" in another room...it may take repeat trips of u making the dog lay down and stay...and ur food getting cold....nothing worse then a begger. EVERYONE that lives with u must inforce this.
my in- laws had a dog that would sit by my father in law and howl til he feed her....(she was an aggressive dog and they never dealt with her problems just put her away)...just putting a dog away will not fix the dog. it makes it worse. in her case she got put down for biting the mother inlaw. and at a young age of 9. (I didn't know she was getting put down else she'd had a new home) now the other dog that was not aggressive is getting to be because it just gets put away if it does something wrong. dogs don't get time outs their brain does not under stand punishment...only cause and reaction ..but i talk to myself there... even when it comes to my kids. and i think just about everytime we visit I ask in laws if the other dog can come home with us...and not to put her down she can live with us...lol she use to be a very sweet dog...but i see the aggression coming out in her...it's like they have to have a mean dog...that they can not even trust... sorry rambling
oh and yes my dogs get table scraps. most of our food is ok for them to eat. they don't beg because i am leader they eat after we do its the order of the pack the leader eats first the followers are last. it is inforced by making them sit ..i put food down and they must wait until i step back and tell they to get it. inforce doesn't mean abuse. it more abusive not to train....

Oh boy! You are going to have to be strong willed. First things first, NEVER give your dog scraps from the table! Because once you do that, the dog will always come to expect food from the table. If you have already given the dog food from the table, the best thing you can do is to remove the dog from the dinning area and put it in a crate or separate room. That means you may have to listen to the dog whimper and whine....but the dog will eventually stop and will understand that meal time for humans is not food time for canines! The most important thing is that everyone supports the no feeding at the table policy. Because if one person gives in and feeds the dog scraps from the table, all of your hard work in training will be undermined. Unfortunately that is what happened in my household! My dog was trained not to beg, but alas, my husband feed her from table and guess what!? We have a begging monster on our hands, no thanks to DH! Good luck! :)

Do not under any circumstance give in to his begging, if you do it even ONCE he will never forget about it, he will know sometimes begging works especially if he is religious in his routine .
Punish him for begging, a NO, BAD DOG should suffice, it might take a LOOOOONG time but it will work. I usually feed at the same time I eat, that way he has his food, I have mine, he should get the message.... eventually

try putting him in another room while you eat...I also use (with my dogs a firm NO BEGGING when they start and at first I had to make them lay down then when I was done eating I always save one bite for each and put it in their dish, that was the positive reinforcement part, then they just learned if they were good then they got a bite...smile)GOOD LUCK!!!! smile........

best thing to do is to put your dog in a crate while you eat and put the crate in the other room so he/she won't see or smell the food.
