Is the ear infected on the inside or is there a bite on the outside? And yes you do need to get to a vet, but for quick relief for the dog, you can use hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol to clean the ear preferably the peroxide as it bubbles and eats blood and cleans the wounds. The vets us it all the time, before during and after surgeries to keep germs out of open wounds\stitch sites. I hope your dog gets better! :)

I have a chihuahua and she just got over a severe ear infection. You will need to take your dog to the vet as soon as possible because they will have to prescribe some medicine for him. Chihuahuas are prone to getting ear infections and when you give him a bath be especially careful not to get water in his ears because this can cause infections. I am not sure what you are referring to when you say you think he may have been bitten. Sorry,

Get him into the vet, only a vet can diagnose if an infection, due to yeast or mites and offer the "CORRECT" treatment

if he has been bitten all the more reason to see a vet

A dog with an ear infection needs to be seen by the vet - the vet needs to determine what's caused the infection in order to treat it correctly with anitbiotics.

There is nothing you can do as far as self medicating.Your dog needs to see the vet and get proper diagnosis and treatment.

15 miles is not that far at all only about 20 -30 minute drive...I have to drive that far + in order to get to my vets (who I also work for) and to pretty much anything else.

i take it you mean an infection on his ear and not one down inside his ear canal ....take some cotton balls and bath it gently in peroxide ...if its really bad he will need stitches ..if it is just a punture wound they will not stitch this but you will need to take him to the vet tomorrow in either case and get him some antibiotics...If you dont feel comfortable doing this or he wont let you take him to the vet and let them do it .
if you do mean down in the ear canal you can clean it out with some q tips but he will need to see the vet for them to determine what kind of ear infection it is and prescribe the correct medicine ...
