Contrary to belief there is no such thing as an aggressive breed so any type of dog can be good with children. The best thing to do is visit an animal shelter. The volunteers or workers will be able to find a dog that is compatible with your lifestyle. If you are physically active or not, the frequency that you are home, the size of house you live in, and your previous pets will be taken into account when considering which dog is best suited for you. Plus, your children can visit prior to the adoption, all vet costs are taken care of, the staff can help you with training tips and advice. It's really the best place to look for a family pet.

I personally feel dogs are all kid friendly, the question is are the kids Dog Friendly!!!!!! Dogs don't like to be harassed, so the kids need to know how to treat the dog! Good Luck. Oh, And I do think bigger dogs are more tolerable than smaller ones!

I would suggest a medium to large dog. Get a puppy. If you arent worried about pure breed or not, go to your shelter and see what they have under 7 months old. If you want a pure bred, go to a registered breeder. It really depends on how much time you have for walking and grooming, most medium sized dogs are high energy and need lots of walks. It also depend on how old your kids are, if the youngest is over 5 get any dog you want, if your youngest is under 5 then i would be a little more choosy. Go to www.dogbreedinfo.com, there is a quiz on there to help you find the breed that is for you depending on the size of your yard, grooming, exercise and the age of your kids. Give it a go to see what comes up.

Well I think u should get them a beagle they are energetic and love to play. Like your kids probably will like that. But if u do get a beagle u have a give it a lot of walks, because if u don't for a long period of time when u walk them they want to run. So just keep that in mind. Also beagles love kids and they are really friendly dogs. Good Luck!

it depends on how much u want spend.... really how old r the kids, where u live..house/apartment..what u like big /small dogs.
mine are miniature dogs. a yorkie and a maltese. adult size=5 pounds. they are lovely, playful sweet and do not eat much, do not poop much, do not mess up the floor much. they can't reach the couch or the dinner table. they can't pull the table cloth or the drapes. they r the kutest and if u teach them right they would not drive u crazy with their barking and the mess. they want to play all the time. my husband loves to play and walk them to the park. my kid who is in college now loves to bring them to her room when she is here and my niece who is 5 loves to play with them.
my neighbor has an autralian shepperd. it is big, grows to 60 pounds, has the most beautiful coat, body and face for a dog,and their kids are pre-teens. it lives in the house and they took him to dog school.my other naighbor has a beagle..short and stocky.. barks like crazy, and looks funny.
so it depends on your likes. go around to the park ,watch dogs at play with their owners. do a computer search, ask around. do not buy the first thing u see and do not go to the store at the mall. get a breeder even if is not in ur state, they ship to u a a cost. the whole thing will cost u a couple of k
u can go to the pound and see what they have, but u do not know what u get ..
good luck... expect to spend some money in food, vet, toys ..they r like kids...u will love them

I would also recommend getting a Golden Retriever. I have three children and two dogs. One being a Golden Retriever and the other a Yellow Lab. Although both dogs are good choices, my personal choice is, the Golden Retriever. Not only are they the most friendliest dogs, they are very patient with children. To me they are the easiest to train and the most loving dogs. GOOD LUCK IN WHAT EVER YOU CHOOSE!.

My mom wanted to get a family dog and she said Bostons are good and aren't bad for kids with allergies. If your kids are old enough to know not to chase of follow it all the time a Snauzer may be good but they hate strangers.

I really don't believe that it is what kind of dog, but how you teach them. But Labs are great with kids and are prone to be friendly. Just make sure that you teach them to be calm and friendly , right from the beinging.
