We have a four month old lab pup that I have been crate training.(very successfully) My hubby says he is now too big to stay in the house. He's very mishevious.(the dog not my hubby) We have a deck that is gated, I put his crate on the deck so he would have somthing familiar with him. We close the gates at night so he can't get out and nothing can get in. During the day I leave the gates open so he can run and play. He hasn't cried at all or whined, but I want him inside. I've been letting him come inside while my hubby is at work.

Is this ok? will it confuse him? Should I pick one or the other?

What is your opinion?

My Pomeranian overnight became paralyzed in her back legs. She is incontinent and does not have control of her bowels. My vet said she does have feeling in her legs and he is giving her steroids to reduce the swelling in her spine, hoping to get her legs moving. This has been going on since Saturday night. Is there any product you have that might be beneficial to my Sophie. She is in the hospital right now, and so depressed I don't see any desire in her eyes to walk, except when I go see her. I want to bring her home, but everyone tells me that her spine needs to be kept as immobile as possible to avoid further injury.

Any advice, tips, experience from others will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kathryn

My dog is a 1 year old pitbull boxer who I have had since he was 3 months old. He is trained to go to the door and bark or whine when he has to go outside, but recently he has started doing "number 2" in my living room with no warning or whining, just squatting and going. He doesn't have diarreha so I don't think it is an urgent thing. Could this be a behavior problem and if so what sparked it and what do I do to change it?

Me and my boyfriend live together in a small apartment, and he wanted a dog, so he got a miniature American Eskimo puppy which, when grown will be 18 to 20 lbs. anyway , she is now 4 months old, very smart, knows tricks, and follows him around everywhere. However she acts to him like he is the pack leader, and when i take her out side she wont listen to me, and inside if he is not there she will growl and completely not listen to me at all, whether i spank he her or anything. When i spank her when she beats up the cat or is bad, she just looks at me like 'who the #**@ do you think you are. I am nice to her, and pet her and everything. How ever to him she acts wonderful. Would taking her to obedience classes help since she will have to learn to obey other people other then him? I have never really seen a dog this small that only recognizes one person as the 'pack leader' and no one else. What should I do?

People actualy think banning these dogs is a good thing......are you serious? sounds like a bunch of biased BS to me! The top three reasons being:

1.Pit bulls have an average score tested by the American temperament society that beats even the "ultimate family dog", the Golden Retriever.

2.Pit Bulls are no more dangerous than any strong and large dog. They just happen to attract more irresponsible and abusive owners than any other breed.

3. A breed ban will only remove Pit Bulls from good people's homes and leave them in the hands of animal abusers who couldn't care less about the law.

So tell me, what is banning the breed gonna help? I have two pits and they're just big babies. I have never had such loyal dogs. Pit Bulls adore to please their loved ones and respond very well to positive reinforcement. They are intelligent dogs, who easily make associations. They can be a lot of fun to train and often do very well in obedience competitions.

My four month old lab, Diesel has been truly a crate training success.
We have a small house, and when he's awake during the night he wakes us all up flopping around and playing with his blanket inside his crate. I would like to leave the door open so he can go play when he's restless without making all the metal noises. Or even let him sleep on a doggie bed instead of in the crate. My question is this:

Will he always need his crate closed? If I leave the crate door open for him to roam at night, will he go back to using the bathroom in my floor? Will he ever be able to not use a crate and still be house broken?

He hasn't done his business in the house in over two weeks...woo hoo!!

Any opinions or personal experience appreciated!

I have a 2 year old, 3 lb. chihuahua, I would like to breed her but I fear that having puppies may kill her. She is my baby, and has been my constant companion since the day she was born. The male weighs 6lbs, and is not much bigger than her....so do I do it?

I may be interseted in buying a toy poodle fairly soon. With all costs set aside (I am willing to pay whatever for grooming), can I keep my dog's fur soft, like a puppy cut or will it be wirey? If you know any additional information about grooming, please post!

Thanks

We took my chihuahua Sophie to the vet today because she has been lethargic and the vet said she may have a deadly uterine infection. He said it sometimes happens after a heat cycle. He is doing blood tests now to be sure. If she does have it she will have to have surgery to get her uterus and ovaries removed. I have been reading up on it and heard that the surgery itself is life threatening. I'm so scared, she my baby girl, shes only a year old. Anyone else gone through this?

Please read the pdf in this link. Unlike most sources that say you must spay or neuter your pets, this one gives you the pros and cons on spaying and neutering your dogs. It doesn't just give you all the good reasons and pretends that there are no bad reasons.

Please read this and make an informed decision when making the decision to spay or neuter your dog.

My friends puppy Koa, won't stop peeing in the house.
He just turned 8 weeks yesterday (3-27-07).

Problem is- he won't stop peeing in the house. She'll put him outside for like 20 minutes, and when she lets him in about 10 minutes or so.... he'll pee in the house.

It's really odd. I wish I was there to help her train him, but I live about 2 hours away.

Is there any training methods as to getting a puppy to stop peeing in the house?

thanks a bunches.

We just got a 6 week old black lab. I am trying to crate train her at night and some during the day. Only at night she poo's in the crate .. I have read that those traning pads are no good,it's just an excuse for them to go in the house.

Okay this is for people who own min pins or have in the past because I want serious answers! My husband and I got a 10 week old male min pin almost a week ago. I'm really getting discouraged with the potty training. I've seen a post that said they are the hardest breed to break. Do yall think that is true? I'm having such a hard time. I've read every page there is on the net regarding house-breaking and I'm doing all of the stuff correctly. He just isn't "taking." Also, in your experience did it take your puppy a while to catch on to words? He simply isn't responding. He looks at us like we are stupid. He play bites.. although it isn't hard, this is NOT a habit we want to go any further. We spat his nose and he never stops. Any ideas to fix that?

I guess overall I'm a little disappointed. I love him, he is very sweet. He just isn't quite as "smart" as I'd hoped. Please don't light into me telling me to be patient. I am willing to wait. I just need serious answers please. Thanks!!

At first I didn't know there was other allegry meds I could take to help with my dog.And that was the only reason I gave her up.Then I told to call the doctor about meds for me for allegrys. And the lady I know that has her. They took her to there vet and had her spayed and a couple of shots. The other owner told them it was ok, she would let me have my dog back. Now the vet says they have a contract with the humane society to not let me have the dog back. I am now a emotional wreck, and I visited my dog at the vet today and love her so much. And really want her back.
