My Pomeranian overnight became paralyzed in her back legs. She is incontinent and does not have control of her bowels. My vet said she does have feeling in her legs and he is giving her steroids to reduce the swelling in her spine, hoping to get her legs moving. This has been going on since Saturday night. Is there any product you have that might be beneficial to my Sophie. She is in the hospital right now, and so depressed I don't see any desire in her eyes to walk, except when I go see her. I want to bring her home, but everyone tells me that her spine needs to be kept as immobile as possible to avoid further injury.

Any advice, tips, experience from others will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kathryn

I am having the same problem with my pomeranian, only her's didn't come on all at once. Its hard to have your pet away from home, but staying at the vet's is the best place for her. My pom's swelling eventually went down enough for her to be home after about a week or so. She still has trouble walking but we give her glucosamine/codroitin (sp?) mixed with her food to help with the pain. Ask the vet how much you should give your little one once she comes home and can walk again... My pom still has trouble walking, her legs will give out on her from time to time, when she wakes up, she usually needs help standing up at first... And sadly, she still does make messes in the house, not as bad, but better than before.. I sure hope your pomeranian gets better. When she comes home, try to make things as comfortable as possible for her. A blanket on the floor versus a doggie bed since she may have trouble getting in a bed, a slightly rasied water/food dish so she doesn't have to bend down as far may make life a little easier too... GOOD LUCK!

Consider consulting a veterinary neurologist, your vet should be able to refer you to one. They would probably recommend an MRI to tell you if surgical repair was possible, like for a collapsed disc. It is best she stay in the hospital, not only does she need a lot of nursing care, but they are also better equipped and trained to care for her, and they can observe her carefully for any changes or need for pain medication. Good luck.

...no advice, I'm just hoping your little pom makes it through this. I would keep doing as the vet suggests.
