A puppy mill is a horrible place where they breed dogs to make profit.
Usually puppy mills will breed a female every time she comes into heat. That is very hard on her body, and not good for the pups either. Once I went to one with my mother, who worked for a non-profit to rid our area of them, and I was horrified to see them all in smelly little cages, hundreds of pups and none of them had that happy look in their eyes. Many times puppy mills will sell breeds to pet stores and say they are pedegried, but really they almost always are not.

A puppy mill is when someone decides to make money off of breeding his or her dogs. The breeder doesn't do what is in the best interest of his dogs- female dogs are pushed to have as many litters as they can per year, and dogs are often kept in kennels outside, instead of raised underfoot in the home.

Serious breeders of dogs breed to improve the breed and select dogs that are as close to the breed standard as possible. Their goal is to create the "perfect" example of that breed and end up losing money in the process.

Puppy mill breeders breed only for profit.

A place you should NEVER support, and from which you should NEVER get a puppy.

Their primary buyers are pet stores, although "backyard puppy mills" (selling to the general public) exist.

A business where the sole purpose is to create puppies to sell, usually to pet stores. Usually they have a bad reputation because of unclean conditions, etc. It's not like the lady down the street who sells a couple of puppies every couple months. This is usually big business, with volume the #1 concern - not the dogs' welfare

a terrible place where people breed dogs for only money. They breed them as much as physical possible. They don't care about the dogs at all. Many dogs and puppies die. They get very sick and the people don't care. It's illegal.

Where people breed dogs for a profit. the places are usually unclean and not fit for the dogs to be there, and they are pinned up with others dogs walking in each other feces sometimes the conditions are a lot worst than this.

These are run by people who do not care about their dogs and only see dollar signs. They will breed their dogs every time they are in heat. Usually the dogs are very unhealthy and very unsocial. They are horrible places for dogs to live and be born in basically.
