Dogs - March 2007

I just read the Heimlich article http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/heimlich_hound
Its amazing at itself that a dog can actually save a person from a burning building, let alone perform the heimlich maneuver. Is there a way that I can teach my dog how to save my life? I know this may seem out of place but, can dogs really comprehend the danger around their masters and the environment around them?

I have 2 dogs. A male chocolate lab/german sheppard mix named Blue. And a female lab/chow mix named Lyla.

Blue is 8 months and Lyla is 1 year. He's nuetered & she's spayed. Both are microchipped (came that way from the shelter)

my fat *** male pug has been acting weird lately. he is potty trained but he has been pissing on the carpet for like a week or two now? our neighbors across the street just got a new dog? could this be why hes acting the way he is?

my dog ate or chewed tyenol sleep pills id take to a vet but i have no tranport but i need info i mean id carry her ther or cab w.e but if its not to necesary help im kinda scared cause it was abou 2 or 3 pill chewed i got other pills out of her mouth i mad her cough some up plz help

I don't understand why someone reported me for posting something on pitbulls being banned in the whole state of California. I guess its some jerk that doesnt understand that pit bulls are good dogs that only get messed up and agressive because of bad owners.
Well for that people that understand that pit bulls are good dogs, they are trying to pass a law in california that bans pit bulls and they would most likely euthanize all pit bulls around. I highly doubt they are going to grandfather all the pits already there.

I just got this brand new puppy named Duke and we've had this other dog named precious for about a yr and a half. When we brought the dogs home we thought they would get along just fine... not the case. They hate each other!!! It's been about two weeks and still no peace in the house. He constantly wants to play with her but she doesn't want to play with him and they start to get into a fight. We don't want to rehome either of them so that is not an option. Can anyone give us any advice on how to make them get along or even just tolerate each other.

I have a 2yr old chihuahua that eats more than a big dog, she only wants what I eat and is totaly my fault because ive' spoiled her too much. Now she doesn't want to eat her food and she will only eat it when she has no choice, and very late at night. Ive' tried that "sauce" for dogs, the expensive brands, the mix of dry food with the other, and still she begs for mine or she wont' eat... and also she sees me doing something and just begs for it like if it were food, and when I have no choice but to give her a little piece of my food, she eats it like shes' never ate before, she's not fat because I only give her little piece of what im' eating but I really need help.

The dog is a spaniel and quite young and my cat is very aggressive towards other animals, they are both male and desexed. I am worried about leaving them alone while i am at work. My cat is not afraid of anything and will act aggressively towards the dog.

Usually when my dog gets sick, it lasts for only a day or two...She's usuallu just tired, and a bath can make her feel better. Lately, she's been tired all the time and she keeps sleeping. She eats her food, goes to sleep, wakes up, eats, goes back to sleep. This cycle has been going on for about a week now, and I'm worried. First I thought that she was just really sleepy because she was barking at a mouse earlier that week, but now she's just sleeping all the time. She's 5 years old and turing six in September. I want to know what's wrong with her...IS SHE GOING TO DIE???

*She seems to be avoiding me. When I call her or follow her, she runs away and hides in her bed. Is she sick because it's really windy and cold? What's wrong.

so yea. this is the third question ive had about my puppy. but my uncle says to crate train him. but im always home so idk how that would work. should i keep him in it at night? or let him sleep in my room so i know when he has to go? i dont go anywhere durring the day...so idk what to do. and the whole chewing stage crate training was suposed to help. but if im home isnt it just wrong to keep him in the cage. he would think hes bad and thats why hes in there..and when do they stop chewing? idk what to do. any sugestions? is their an easier way to potty train and stop chewing on things that arent his?

I am worried my ex husband got our dog that i had for 8 years since he was a puppy. he is not talkin to me now so i hvae not seen my dog @ all in months. i saw on the news about the pets dying of kidney failure from the pet food that was recalled. My ex husband always fed him dry foods like Old Roy or kibbles n bits or purina .. is this kind safe? im really worreid about my dog :(
