The dog is a spaniel and quite young and my cat is very aggressive towards other animals, they are both male and desexed. I am worried about leaving them alone while i am at work. My cat is not afraid of anything and will act aggressively towards the dog.

Crate the 2 dogs while you are gone. ( In separate crates )

If at all possible, try to split up your home, so that the cat has half of the place to himself, and the dog has the other half to himself. Just make sure its where the littler box and food and water is. If that's not possible, get a baby gate and put it in a hallway so that the cat has a way of "escaping" from the dog, if the dog wants to chase it. If you notice that the cat wants to attack it and the dog feels threatened then you might have to put your cat in a big bedroom or room that will be separate from the dog..I know it will suck, or you might want to put the dog in the room. It just depends on how they act.

Also, dont expect your cat to be happy while the dog is there. He will probably be a little mad, but he should get over it once the dog leaves. He just wants to be king of his castle. hope this helped. thanks
