I adopted An ABBT from the S.P.C.A 7 months ago. She has not been spayed because I was told that I should find out when her cycle is, then spay her. She has been bleeding for 3 days. How long does this last? What can I do to keep things in control seeing she is an indoor dog. Thanks to all that respond ...

Seeing from your picture you seem to be female. It's the same reason girls get their periods. ;) If I was you I would slap those shelter people. You don't have to know when the dogs going to be having her cycle to spay her. The only reason a vet will not spay is because the dog is pregnant and in that case the owner is alowed the option to abort the litter if they decide to go ahead with the spaying. I believe dogs go through this for 21 days. I would suggest getting a diaper for her so she doesn't bleed on things.

Also don't let her outside unsupervised. A male dog will do anything to get to a female in heat. I've seen them climb over and under fences. o.o

Call the S.P.C.A. They will be
able to give you a date on which to spay her. (Write down the date she started.)
Spaying a female dog or cat eliminates its heat cycle, which can last twenty-one days, twice a year, in dogs, and anywhere from three to fifteen days, three or more times a year, in cats. Females in heat often cry incessantly, show nervous behavior, and attract unwanted male animals. (This is part of the reproduction process--keep her away from male dogs.)

Hi your dog will come on heat every 6 months and last about 10 days watch her carefully and make sure no other dogs come near her they can smell a dog on heat for miles she is too young to have puppies and if you dont want her to have puppies or for her personality to change as soon as she is not on heat anymore have her fixed up and you wont have to worry anymore , cheers

not too sure how long it lasts, maybe keep her in a room unless she is outside. just until it stops and then have her in to be fixed. (vets dont like performing a spay when the animal is in heat) it's gross but u cant really put a diaper on her can u? call ur vet, his advice is free and valuable. if he wont help u iwth ur concerns then u dont want ur dog near him n e wayz.

It can last as long as two weeks!! My recommendation is go get her fixed when she is off it!! DONT BREED her!!! They do sell doggie dipers for this at pet stores, so you should go buy some if you dont want blood all over your house.. Thanks for adopting, you know they make the best pets! I volunteer for an animal shelter and see how many pits come in and how many dont get a home!!! I am soo happy to see that some people love this breed, just like I do!
