Yo
your dog would have to drink enough of this stuff to pop it's gut before he would get sick

That is UNLESS the dog drinks from the pool right after it has been SHOCK TREATED--- This high of a concentration of chlorine could definately harm the dog --- and the recommended time to even allow the dog NEAR the pool is approximately the same time that the manufacturers recommend that swimmers stay out of the pool after this process is done --- and it varies by manufacturer and by dosage of the treatment !! What ever this recommendation is -- I would make sure that the dog stayed well clear of the pool for some time AFTER that period !!!

If he drinks alot of it he will.
My dogs have their own pool/cattle trough.
I put chemicals in it to keep the algae down and it's great fun for them to jump in and out of it and chase a ball around in the water. But one dog is arthritic and has trouble getting out.So I only allow them in the pool with supervision. When I see them trying to drink the water I just tell them no.

Very doubtful. If your chlorine residual is in the "ideal" range, usually 1ppm to 2ppm, there won't be anything to worry about.
