Everyone knows there is a pet overpopulation problem. Everyone knows that a pregnant dog and a litter of puppies is going to be a royal pain in the butt. People should understand that dog breeders already exist and we don't need more, after all, I assume they got their dog from a breeder if they think it's worth breeding. And finally, why do people not understand that crossing two breeds is a worthless waste of time and will not result in anything of value?

Please folks, do not breed your dogs! Being a breeder is much more complicated than putting two dogs together and getting puppies. If you don't understand complex things about genetics and have vast knowledge of the specific dogs you want to breed and their pedigrees and the pedigrees of all those dogs, and so on, you won't be able to select proper crosses and will only contribute to messing up the bloodlines. Why do people think it's as simple as putting two registered dogs together?

My dog is pretty good, but sometimes she won't do what I tell her, I don't want a robot dog and i want her to be happy but I also want her to listen. All she enjoys is walks and hikes in the woods, and barking at people walking thier dogs and chasing squirls.

I am writing a persausive essay on why people should adopt dog rather than buy one but I need facts to support it. For example statistics on dogs being put down at pounds, the pros of pet adoption for dog and owner, cons for buying dogs (puppy mills, etc). Thanks!

My 7 week pregnant pug is always acting hungry even if she just ate her meal. She always follows me in the kitchen and can't seem to have a full stomach. I think she's overweight i wanna give her a diet because she might have a hard time giving birth.

Also, how do I know if she will be giving birth already? She's acting stressed nowadays, barking at my brother when my brother isn't doing anything at her.

Tips for pregnant dogs will also be appreciated.

Thanks

I am really strict and loving. I use rewards and all the tecniques from obedience classes. I use the water bottle, which he hates, for punishment. He listens pretty good to me. But my brother is harsh with him. He will be physical with him and push him off the couch really rough and my dog will turn on a dime and coming running to my brother when called. With me, he usually comes pretty good, but not like that. My dog adores my brother and me both... I use a deep authroitive voice and all that, and never let him get away with anything.. but he listens much slower and more reluctanct to me... why?

Cesar Millan, the dog whisperer guy says:

Affection and love fulfill humans, not dogs. Dogs don’t need affection from us to feel balanced or aligned. These are human needs.

I agree with with him and i respect his knowledge of dogs, and i also think that it is important for dogs to know where they are in the "pack" of the household, and that humans treat them in a way that wont confuse their natural instincts. But I also think that they love to be loved. Well i was just wondering what your opinion on the subject is. Do you agree with him? Disagree? Why?

My dog was run over today and I took him to the vet, who really didn't spend to much time looking him over and told me he was fine aside from a little road rash. She gave him a pain killer and some antibiotics. Once home my little buddy wouldn't lay down and I'm afraid he may have some internal damage. Or maybe he's just shook up. He's a pretty big boxer so he is really strong. Should the pain killer knock him out?

My dog growls, moans and rumbles when I rub his stomach or sides. He pants and growls, but doesn't show teeth. Sometimes while I'm doing this, he'll just jump up and move away. I"m not at all rough with him, but I'm not sure if he thinks we're playing and having fun with him, or if I'm being agressive and scaring him. How can I tell the difference?

He does so good already with accidents here and there still:(

And he is about 6 months old, and we've been training him on this since Feb.
Just wanted to see what the estimated time is for how long dogs take to be "trusted" to go only outdoors...how long did it take for you?
He is a boxer/shepherd mix, he is very smart..he knows a wide variety of commands already. But cant seem to understand everytime is outside..lol

Thanks

I just got a 4 yr old golden retreiver. He is beautiful and sweet. Only one problem, he will not go outside without a fight. He is 100+ pounds and I'm this little person trying to shove him out the door. I don't know why he is so scared. He doesn't look or act odd beyond that. He's potty trained for the most part, he had an accident one day but I'm not sure if that was my fault or his. Does anyone have any recommendations?

She is missing all but one of her rear toes but has all of her front toes. She seems to be able to run and play without any problems. I am curious however, if the missing rear toes could in the future lead to hip problems or any other medical issues. Does anyone have personal experience owning a dog with missing rear toes and if so, could you share your experience please?

I work at an animal shelter and a very submissive and sweet american bulldog pitbull just touched my heart. I feel bad because so many people made pitbulls get a bad reputation from using them for dog fights. I always tell vistors at the shelter that it isn't necessarily the breed itself, but the dog and how it was treated during those CRITICAL puppy years. ANY dog can be mean or agressive if anytime it sees a human and remembers pain from abuse. Many people really don't want him because of this breed's reputation and eventhough our shelter doesn't euthanize unwanted animals I still feel so bad for him because he's only 1. My dad is sooo scared of pitbulls and I want to convince him that this dog is different. He passed ALL the shelter's behavior tests with flying colors, and he even gets along with dogs and cats! All he needs is a loving home. How can I convince my dad to let me get this dog? Any advice would be so appreciated. Maybe you can help me out chetco?

Tonight my 5lb. Yorkie jumped off the back of the couch and landed on tile. I'm not sure how he landed, but I heard him fall and it sounded like something cracked. My boyfriend said that it was just his nails hitting the tile, but my puppy yelped and squinted his eyes for a few moments. I then rubbed his head and body to see if he would yell more, but he didn't. He is now running around and jumping and playing with his toys as I type. Should I take him to the vet tomorrow to get him checked out or am I just worrying too much? Please Help! I just don't want to neglect what has happened? Also are there any ways to prevent what has happened tonight. He can jump very high and is really bouncy.
Thanks!
