Humans can get round worms, but it is difficult to get them directly from a dog. You have to ingest a round worm egg, which would be present in the dog's feces. I once worked in a third world country where many people suffered from round worms during the rainy season. Heavy rain would splash from the ground, carrying round worm eggs, and they would accidently ingest them. The good news is that round worms aren't a terrible parasite to have--more gross than anything else. Still, if your dog does have round worms, it's important to make sure that feces do not lie around, especially if you have small children. And the dog should be treated. The parasite is also fairly easy to get rid of.

Some are. Wash your hands, and get the dog regular de-wormings.
