Tonight my 5lb. Yorkie jumped off the back of the couch and landed on tile. I'm not sure how he landed, but I heard him fall and it sounded like something cracked. My boyfriend said that it was just his nails hitting the tile, but my puppy yelped and squinted his eyes for a few moments. I then rubbed his head and body to see if he would yell more, but he didn't. He is now running around and jumping and playing with his toys as I type. Should I take him to the vet tomorrow to get him checked out or am I just worrying too much? Please Help! I just don't want to neglect what has happened? Also are there any ways to prevent what has happened tonight. He can jump very high and is really bouncy.
Thanks!

My yorkie does the same exact thing! He always jumps off the back of the couch! He's nuts, he's willing to jump off things so high, once he even tried to jump out of an open car window...while we were moving! (Thankfully I grabbed him in time!) I would say he is fine. My pup Moose will randomly hurt himself, and I always get really worked up about it and take him straight to the vet, where basically they tell me nothings wrong. My parents watched him when he was a baby, and one day my Dad accidentally stepped on his foot when they were walking up the stairs and he fell all the way down(It wasn't my Dad's fault, Moose always gets too close to people's feet) He cried, of course, and he limped and was bummed out for a day, but after that he was just fine. I even took him to the vet who said he was fine. I would just suggest that if he isn't limping or acting funny and youve given him 2 or 3 days, then hes alright.

Oh yes--to prevent my dog off jumping off the back of the couch I put it against a wall. Before that it was up against a doorway so I put two baby gates ontop of eachother to keep him from jumping.

My yorkie's doctor said that yorkies have really weak legs... Yes, go to the vet and see if he is ok... You never know... I once stepped on my dogs foot and so I went to the vet and it was a good thing i went because they figured that her joints in her legs are not connecting and starting to spread apart... It happends to alot of small dogs with small legs.. Please check on her before it gets really serious. Altjough it might look like she is fine... You can always say shie is alright... That is what i thought until i went to the vet... I was completely wrong... Go to the vet and see what happens..
Good Luck and I hope everthing turns out to be fine for your dog.

I have this problem too. My dog likes to jump up on everything and sometimes he gets on something way too high up. I'm simply training him not to jump on those things. He's learning, but I have to keep a good eye on him when he's playing because he forgets.

Your dog is probably OK.

Most dogs are pretty resilient, but keep an eye on him. Often they'll play like there's nothing wrong, but something maybe sprung.
If he shows any sign of different body movements or activity level take him to the vet.

He's probably okay, if he is playing again. I don't doubt it hurt, and the pain of the fall may have taught him the lesson he needed to learn--no more swan dives off the back of the couch!! If he limps or seems listless tomorrow, then take him to the vet. In the meantime, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

As a sidenote, it's always nice to hear owners who are genuinely concerned about their pets!!!

I'd just keep an eye on him if he's acting normal right now and about your couch i don't know how it is setting but you may need to put it against the wall or put a pad behind it if the pad would not be visible other than that i don't know

Did you feel his legs, like really put pressure on them. How about his ribs. Does his head look to be in the same position when he looks at you, not to one side or the other. I would say to take time to the vets to be on the safe side, his bones might all be fine but what about his insides. Have the vet do some X-rays to see if there is any internal damage or broken bones.

The dog knows his body best, unless he starts acting hurt I think you can rest easy, just keep on eye on him the next couple of days

You should take to the vet if u care about him. This if it is bad could lead to problems later in his life maybe. If it were mine i would take it to the vet. Who knows there could be something else wrong with him. We took our dog for something and did a test just cause and he had heart worms we found out before it was bad. Maybe that could happpened.

Your Yorkie will be okay.I also have a Yorkie and please make sure your Yorkie will never fall because they are small dogs and tell your boyfriend that he doesn't know anything about them.
