It's irresponsible to carelessly breed dogs.

The euthanasia rate for dogs in shelters in the United States is around 60 percent. That means that six out of every 10 dogs that end up in a shelter are put to sleep. We are talking about young and old dogs, males and females, mixed breeds and purebreds, healthy and sick, big and small.

(Incidentally, the euthanasia rate for cats is 80 percent!)

A responsible person who really cares about companion animals in our society will not produce more of them with the sole exception of someone who is doing it out of a dedication to preserving and improving a particular breed, which has almost a scientific approach to it. And even they should take great care not to "overbreed," and make sure they have interested buyers before they plan a litter. (And yes, there is a LOT of planning that goes into breeding a quality litter.)

The bottom line is: There are already too many unwanted animals. Way, way, way too many. And we in this country KILL our "extras." So why make more?

Even though your dog we shall call her Dame, and the other dog (Sire) are both wonderful dogs, there is no guarantee in a mixed breed that the puppies will be wonderful dogs themselves.

The reason why so many people choose purebred dogs is because they have well documented family trees. The generations have been watched, prodded, and set to many tests. Each purebred is bred for one or two specific reasons (ex. Bernese Mountain Dogs-Drovers, Watch Dog, Cart Pullers.....ex. Doberman-Guard Dog.....ex. Great Dane- Boar Hunter....ex. Poodle- Water Retriever). When you purchase a purebred dog you know what to expect the dog to be like every month of that dogs life. You know what health concerns to watch out for, your vet will know what health problems are more likely to occur to your pooch and help you watch for them. If ever there is a question or concern you can contact the breeds parent club and simply ask them what to do or what is happening.

With mixed breeds however, there is none of that back up. If Dame is a beagle/poodle mix and Sire is a pug/yorke mix, who knows what sort of temperaments the pups will end up having?

If you want another mixed breed dog, go to your local shelter and start strolling down the line of canine death row. There are plenty of dogs there, including purebreds!! I think it is something like 1 out of every 4 dogs in a shelter is actually a purebred that was dropped off because people were willing to purchase the puppy, but not to research the dog.

Also on another side note if Dame is a Chessie/Lab and Sire is a German/Australian Shepherd mix, you will need to look into the avg. expectant puppies from those breeds, and have ready homes for those pups. DON'T BE AN IRRESPONSIBLE BREEDER! Breeding a dog is not simply just getting Dame to meet Sire. It includes regular checkups for Dame, making sure Sire doesn't have anything he could have passed onto Dame (and vice versa), finding out how many puppies are expected, the search for finding homes for the puppies, the first vaccines, the dewclaw removal...yadda yadda yadda....You don't breed puppies for money. You breed them for the love and improvement of the breed. If you are making money off the sale of a puppy, then something is wrong. A responsible breeder speeds big bucks to make sure puppies are extremely happy healthy critters.

And that right there is just one small, but extremely large argument for why you should NOT give yourself a holiday in lieu of breeding your mixed breed.

It is not that I don't believe in breeding just mixed dogs, I don't believe in breeding any dogs. There is such an over population of dogs. Before you decide to breed your dog, go down to the local animal shelter and take a look and see some of the poor dogs that may never get a home. These dogs will probably be put to death. It is not about you having a nice holiday. It is about responsibility.

Do you know what happens when you breed ( lets say Newfie) with a genetic marker that guarantees bladder stones and you are not aware of it because you did not do your research and are just there to make the money?
YOU RUIN THE BREED!
So what if you have two gorgeous mixed breed dogs, it does not mean that they will produce good pups. Leave the breeding to people of experience who know not just how to breed dogs but what breeds of dogs can be bred together to improve the breed.
It's because of unethical people such as yourself that animal shelters and rescue groups are going out of their minds trying to place that "cute puppy" from your "cute mixed breed dogs".
You do not deserve a holiday at the expense of responsible people!

Why would I want to buy a mixed breed puppy from you for who knows how much money, when I can go to the humane society and get one for 60 bucks.
I have a problem with it because we don't need more breeders we have way too many dogs without homes and if you breed your two mixed dogs you are just adding to the problem.
Instead of adding to it you should be getting your dogs fixed and helping the problem out!

Please go look at www.petfinder.com There are THOUSANDS of homeless dogs dying EVERY day in shelters. Why would you want to add to that? :( Each puppy in the litter will likely go on to produce more puppies and so on, there is just not enough homes for all of them.

When you say get yourself a nice holiday, are you meaning that you will make enough money from a litter to go on a vacation? Your dog should be a family member, not a way to make money. It's likely you will actually lose money anyway, vet bills are expensive and there's possibilities for many complications. What if your dog needs a c-section, are you going to pay to have that done? People aren't going to spend huge amounts of money on a mixed breed puppy. If this is a money making endevor, please look elsewhere. Please do your dogs a favor and have them spayed and neutered.

Millions of pets die in shelters. Adding to the problem is wrong.
Heat cycles and pregnancy is hard on animals. They are more likely to get cancer even if they have no problems birthing. If she does have trouble, it's big money to save her and the pups.
Un-neutered boys are difficult to live with. Even if they don't pee on and hump everything in sight, they are wild to get out at the girls. Keep in mind they can smell a girl dog from a long way off and get tense and excited. They do anything to get out: whine, bark, dig, pace, circle, generally make a nuisance of themselves. Then they get hit by cars, or get cancer.
Breeding isn't cheap. Most people don't make a whole lot. Vet bills alone eat a lot of the profits. Puppies eat a lot, and lots of places won't let you sell a pup without the first shots, more money out of your profits.
So, basically, you probably won't make much anyway, so don't.

it's not just mixed breeds it's not knowing what you are in for pups take allot of work and time and they are not cheep ether you can't get a lot out of a mixed breed ether and you can't separate them from the mother for 8 weeks around here if someone wants a mutt they can get one from the pound for about 75 bucks which is how much it is to have one fixed so really all you are paying for is getting the dog fixed

Would you just PLEASE take a look at your local shelters web-site,go on PetFinder and check out the available dogs listed in your state alone.THEN consider breeding.
If after looking at all the homeless animals that were dumped, abused, neglected or given up because the owner could not keep them does'nt break your heart then go ahead and breed and be happy.
You have got to think about the welfare and quality of life of the pups you bring into this world before you think about making them.
You must not look at puppies as dollar signs because you cannot trust that your female will not kill every pup because she does'nt want to care for them.
You can't imagine the expense a litter can cost you before you list the pups for sale or to give away.
What will you do if the mother has trouble whelping?Do you realize what a c-section costs?Do you realize that if the pups are not healthy and you sell them the new owners can sue you for vet bills and for fraud because you misrepresented the pups health?Do you know what it costs to have pups vet checked before selling them?
Have you any idea the annoyance a litter of pups causes? It's fun at times but it's a huge headache?
Have you had children yourself? If so- try to think about when you first brought the baby home. How your life dramatically changed and how tired you were getting up at all hours walking the floor with a crying kid.Now imagine that crying and the feeling of helplessness you had because you did'nt know what was wrong or how to fix it.
NOW IMAGINE THAT BY 9.That's probably how many pups you'll have all yelping loudly all night.
And let's not forget the smell and the mess you'll have to deal with.Puppies poop alot.MOMMA DOG DOES NOT CLEAN THAT UP-YOU DO!And after they wallow around in their food and climb out of their pens and spread mushy goo and poop all over the carpets guess who's shampooing rugs? And let's not talk about teething.
Puppies get sick and you have to take care of them.Do you have any idea how to care for a sick puppy?Do you know what to look for to seperate a sick one from the others?Do you realize the extra care a sick pup needs?
And after you've nursed them back to health imagine how angry and hurt you'll be when you find the pup you kept alive thru sheer will alone, the one you kept close at all times to watch and worry over, the one you slept with to keep it close and warm, the one you shoved food and meds into with an eye-dropper,was sold to an idiot who is abusing and neglecting it!

please read these and then you will see why no one should breed there pet. It doesn't matter if its pure breed or not. No one should do it. For the safety or the dogs they should all be fixed because it cuts down on the risk of getting cancers and other dangerous diseases that could end there life early.

http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/why_you_should_spay_or_neuter_your_pet.html

Also there are thousands of pure and mix breed dogs dying in animal shelters already. we don't need any more dogs to be born as it will just cause more pet overpopulation. please watch this video. its very sad, but I am hoping you will understand why I am saying all of these things.

and then read this, PLEASE!!

I am not trying to be rude, but from my experience volunteering in an animal shelter, I feel that no one should breed there dog, it doesn't matter on what breed, it just shouldn't be done..My moto is Don't breed or buy while shelter pets Die!! Thanks
