I am writing a persausive essay on why people should adopt dog rather than buy one but I need facts to support it. For example statistics on dogs being put down at pounds, the pros of pet adoption for dog and owner, cons for buying dogs (puppy mills, etc). Thanks!

- ADOPT: In order for these animals to be eligible for adoption, they must receive a health inspection by a Veterinarian and they must have all of their vaccinations up to date.

- BUY: It is no secret that the animals being sold in many stores have been ill-treated and not properly cared for.

- Buying animals will only cause breeders to breed more and more, and continue the over-saturation of animals.

Your teacher will be super-impressed if you cover both side of the issue. These people are the experts on adoption, breeding, and so on.

There are many good reasons to buy a purebred dog from a reputable breeder, but 90% of the people out there who call themselves breeders, are puppy mills. A good number of these idiots are on here right now asking questions about how to create more worthless dogs that will only contribute to the problem. Most people do not know the difference and a good number of people don't care either. That is the biggest problem with dog breeding overall - unless you are already a dog expert, you are going to have a hard time identifying the good breeders from the crap puppy mills.

hope this helps! and good luck on your paper. Oh if you are allowed to do different genera's I did a brochure.. putting pros and cons for both, but of course was leaning towards the adopting from shelter side. I also put in pics of animals in shelters and puppy mills. good luck

Well, I can't take much credit for this because I know of it through someone else on yahoo answers. This video will give you a lot of information on why you should adopt from a rescue or shelter. A warning though there are pictures and it's hard to watch. I cried a while after I watched it. If you want a convincing argument about getting a dog from a shelter or rescue though.......it's here................

WHEN YOU ADOPT A DOG, YOU ARE SAVING A LIFE!!!! THEY ONLY GIVE EACH DOG SO MUCH TIME BEFORE IT GETS PUT DOWN..I ADOPTED A BLACK LAB MIX AND HE IS AN AMAZING DOG. THE ADOPTED DOG AUTOMATICALY BONDS WITH THE PEOPLE WHO SAVED ITS LIFE AND GAVE IT A GOOD HOME... THEY COME FIXED WHEN YOU PICK THEM UP AND ITS INCLUDED IN THE COST OF THE ADOPTION.....GO TO A PET STORE 2 WEEKS AND YOU WILL NEVER SEE THE SAME DOGS...GO TO THE HUMAIN SOCIETY FOR A MONTH AND YOU WILL KNOW THEM BY NAME...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CHECK THE SHELTERS AND IT IS ALSO A LOT CHEAPER THAN A PET STORE, THEY ARE NOT TRYING TO MAKE MONEY......IF YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW MANY DOGS REALLY GET PUT DOWN, CALL YOUR LOCAL SHELTER AND ASK!
P.S YOU WONT LIKE THE ANSWER..

LET ME KNOW HOW YA DID

People buy on whim, when you go a pound, or the local SPCA, it's cause you really want to give a good life to an animal that was someone else's whim.
