I don't understand why someone reported me for posting something on pitbulls being banned in the whole state of California. I guess its some jerk that doesnt understand that pit bulls are good dogs that only get messed up and agressive because of bad owners.
Well for that people that understand that pit bulls are good dogs, they are trying to pass a law in california that bans pit bulls and they would most likely euthanize all pit bulls around. I highly doubt they are going to grandfather all the pits already there.

Oh, and Im not a pit owner either. I would proabably never own a pit, but I love dogs. And they are good dogs.
Im a groomer and I have never had a pit try to bite me. While Chihuahuas and other small dogs try to bite me all the time. Yet owners think thats cute because they are small dogs! And I have small dog and a big dog and I would never tolerate biting or bad behavior from either of them!

Sad truth is most people don't respect them. America is the last country that should be banning these wonderful breeds. The American Pit Bull Terrier was the first breed of dog that we could claim originated from here. These were police dogs before breeds such as German Shepherds, way before. An American Pit Bull Terrier was a mascot for WWI and was on almost all posters and advertisments for our country/the war. Infact one APBT helped capture a German spy! Yet now our worlds so f-ed up nobody can respect them. The APBT was once a family breed and suggested for people with children, now people freak out if you even mention the name. Thats not the only thing the APBT has done for us! They have given us their loyalty and humans have ruined them.

I find it rather funny when people say a Pit like breed is one of the top biters of all dogs and have breeds like Cocker Spaniels, Labrador Retrievers, Poodles, ect. XDD Those dogs are WAY higher on the bite list!

Also most "Pits" on the news you hear about arnt even that. They have lied to get more ratings. There were a few cases, an Akita, Dalmatian and Siberian Husky just to name a few off the top of my head, where the dogs were later looked over and the reporters were changed to the correct breeds after calling them "Pit Bulls". In the eyes of the media and uneducated people they are nothing more than stocky, medium sized, short haired big headed dogs. This becomes a problem with mixed breeds as there isnt any way of telling the history of family unless the person knows 110% who the parents, grandparents and great grandparents were. Even if the dog has no "Pit Bull" in them they are still put down because of the way they look. If it matches the "stocky, medium sized, short haired big headed" description they are killed. *sighs*

"potentially extremely vicious breeds should be made extinct. "

Did you know science reports say that within just 10 generations a person could breed in a vicious dog no matter what the breed?

If you are going to extinct "vicious" breeds then all dogs should be extinct. Go work in a vet office before you decide whos vicious. Go look through the files on their warning dogs. Most arnt even of breeds you would expect to bite. I have a Chihuahua whos bit the blood out of a person before and wouldn't let go. I have Pekingese/Pomeranian who shows agressision towards small children and I once had to sling her into the couch to get her off my arm when I went to take away the cats food that she was eating. (And shes NEVER shown food agression before.) Both of my dogs were raised well and trainned properly. ANY. Dog. Can. Show. Agression.

I would also like to add about the case where the POMERANIAN. Yes, the Pomeranian. Small fluffy breed. KILLED the infant. And the ferret who bit the toes off the child?

Don't feel bad they are doing the same thing just about everywhere.I live in Arkansas and there are bans on half the state you pretty much have to be in the sticks to have your Pits and be at peace. Its sad that such a pretty dog has taken on such a bad reputation because of such bad owners and everyone has to try and deal with it.If they did there studies they would see and realize that pits don't start out bad unless the owner intends on them being that way.Pit bulls are rank among the top 5 in attacks but they are ranked #4 so with that being the case maybe they should ban the other three in front of them which are Golden retrievers,Cocker Spaniels and I can't remember the last one,but I'm pretty you understand what point I'm trying to make.

People are ignorant and want to believe that it is the animal's fault for attacks. each attack has a human cause...no matter what people want to think. The greattest dogs that I have ever worked with have been pit bulls. Some of the most aggressive dogs (the ones most likely to bite) were goldens, labs, cockers, mini schnauzers, and pretty much any dog that weighed under 20lbs...including chihuahuas and yorkies. Training is essential for ALL breeds. There are plenty of dumb people who get dogs like pits, rotts, shepherds, dobies, and cana presarios that just want them because they look impressive and aggressive, but do not devote the time necessary to make them a productive member of canine and human society. It is not the dog, they learn from us! I do not think that there should be a breed ban at all, we should just ban people instead.

I just read your posting/questions and alot of the answers. What baffles me is how alot of people can bash pits/rotti's /staffi's(which I own). What about the black Lab that chases my kids everytime they walk by, or when my dogs are in my car it gets chased and the other dog is actually trying to jump up on my car while in motion, while my dogs are BEHAVING. Or like someone else said, the little dogs. My daughter was bit by an ankle biter about three weeks ago!
Oh and did I mention Shepards! They get a bad name too. I have a 125lb Shepard mix who is 11, and he hasn't "snapped" yet! He has been around babies all his life, small kids, ect. Please, let's educate the dog owners and hold them accountable, and leave the dogs alone!

THERE ARE NO SUCH THING AS BAD DOGS. BUT THERE ARE BAD OWNERS. I have always said that!. Pits are no differnt from any other dog. I've seen shy pits, scary pits, and boring pits. All dogs have difernt attitiudes just b/c ppl make pits fight because they are strong dosent mean they are all meantt to kill and fight. ABSOLUTELY NOT!

I own 2 male 7 month old pits. They are so adorable and sweet, I mean, extremely mellow.

But......I would not trust them at all. I could say that 99.99% of the time, they are friendly, sweet, and what not....but the other.1% is when they actually (for some reason) will not recognize me as their owner or master. I've noticed this type of behavior every now and then, and all I do is stay away from them and let them relax.

People's ignorance will never cease to amaze me. Any dog can be turned into a problem dog. It's all about the owners lack of knowledge. But we speak and nobody listens. Almost seems like a losing fight and unfortunately our babies will pay the ultimate price. I'll fight till the end for them but it's getting very depressing.

I've owned two pits when I was a child. Both of them were the sweetest dogs anyone could want.it's not the dogs it's the evil owners. If anyone should be euthanized it should be the people who teach them to be mean.

I'm sorry but until you have had one of your own dogs in the mouth of a pit bull (that was a fixed and well trained dog)- than you have no room to talk. Because my poor dog didn't die, I didn't require the pit to be put down. The experience of finding your dog in the mouth of a pit bull and being unable to get the dog to let go is traumatizing. I want you to know, however, that this pit bull went on to attack 2 other dogs and eventually a person and was later put to sleep. I am an animal lover, by the way. I volunteer for humane societies, am a vegetarian, and own 2 dogs. I strongly believe they are dangerous dogs & regardless of whether it's the animals fault or the owner; the sad truth is that the majority of people that own them are exactly the type that make them the way they are.
Pit bulls annually top the list for dog bites in the us. Go ahgead and check it out if you don't believe me.
