I know what we used was this yellow thing that you stick in the ground and it releases hormones that the dog will want to cover with its own scent. It was really effective in our case and you can get them at PetsMart I believe.

I have trained about 4 pups and dogs in the last year and and I used the same method with all of them.I combined using the underground system along with taking them out on a leash for about a week or so and from there they were use to the routine and till this day they still go in the same spot.I actually train a friend of mine's dog in my back yard to go in the same spot using the lil underground system from petsmart and he took him home about 2 weeks later in stall the system and the puppy went right to it the first time out.....
