I have trying hinting to her (don't think she gets it). I have tried what the first person suggested but sometimes the bowl is on its side & cannot aim the hose into it to fill it. Its a bucket and both dogs are large so drink lots. Luckily I have gotten close to both dogs and neither bite or attack me. Neither tip over the bucket it just runs dry. I dont want to call animal welfare since we are the only neighbours with visibly of the waterbowl and the neighbours would know instantly if who called. I will of course continue to fill their bowl one way or another.

What gets me is one of the neighbours happens to be a VET NURSE go figure!

No they dont tip over the bucket or play in it. It just gets refilled sometimes after the bucket has been emptied. Sometimes I get so paranoid about it that I look over the fence just to see if there is water. Why cant people do the right thing!

Agravating as all get out, isn't it?!
I had a very sweet, but ignored german shepard that lived next door to me, and she was never fed or watered! I feel the same way about her as you do about these dogs. I gave that poor girl water everyday, and any kind of leftover food or treats I could! I got busted giving her water one night, and the owner didn't say a word to me but rushed the dog into the house. Finally, I had a conversation with this woman, and my jaw hit the floor when she said "I'm sorry, I can't thank you enough for all you do for my dog." She's moved up the street now, which makes it a bit more difficult for me to feed and water the big girl. But I check on her as much as I can.

Well, anyway, back to your answer. lol Keep doing what you are doing and just help the dogs out, as though they were your own. Maybe get a huge bucket (or a second) for them to drink from, so it stays full longer. Maybe that neighbor is just scatter-brained (or stupid) like mine was. Have a conversation with them when you can, and let them know "look, I gave the dogs water again. It's not a big deal, but I wish you could look out for them a bit more." If it gets bad enough, call animal control and let them know about it. Maybe it will be enough to make them think twice about leaving an empty water bowl. lol

Good luck.
;o)

This can be very awkward and needs to be done carefully I would just start off talking to her about the dogs and then just mention that sometimes the dogs must have been playing a lot as you've noticed their water bowl is empty, after all some dogs tip over the water bowls hopefully she'll take the hint

Depends on why it is empty. Do the dogs DRINK that much? Or do they play in it and spill it? If they are actually drinking it, and thirsty when it is refilled, let them know they need a bigger bowl, or offer to refill it while they are away. If it is because they play in it, maybe you could suggest a kiddie pool, or large tub. One of my dogs dumps his water after every drink, even works to tip the big tubs and kiddie pools. I have no idea why, he's just nuts, but he is usually out of water! I wish I had a neighbor who would casually fill them while I was gone, I would worry less.

It really depends on the situation. Many times the dogs have drank all the water. If this is the case suggest a bucket of water verses just a bowl. My dogs love the buckets of water. they also love the larger flat underbed storage containers filled with water. If they get hot they can step in it.

Just go over and fill it. If they come out and ask what you are doing, just tell them you saw the water bowl empty and you thought you would just fill it for them instead of bother them. Most people will get the hint after the 2nd time.

You should put a new bowl in with them. That way she gets the hint that their water is gone so much the neighbor noticed. Then she will fill the bowl constantly so you don't think she's in irresponsible owner.................this has happened to me before.

If the water bowl where you can get there to it. I would put water in and then just say I noticed that when I was outside your dogs didn't have have any water so I put some in there for you. while you was watering the flowers or your whichever you have.

I would just tell them, hey i noticed.... or tell a story -(a fake one) about dogs & not enough water--died, blah blah... or go to pet store they sell cool things holds bunch of water & releases it as it empties. Buy that & say you saw it & thought so cool. Either your friend has 1 or you do, or whatever.

people get sooo offended today
why not call your local animal control, tell them you want to remain anonymous, then let them handle it
I personally can tell some of my neighbors ,but not others, without hurting their feelings
....just say wow! do your dogs ever drink alot....I filled their bowls twice today ,hope you don't mind
I think they may need a bigger water bowl

Try to keep doing what you are doing, but by all means call the authorities if you need to. The dogs deserve to be treated better.
