I am trying to figure out if any dogs have dark markings on their teeth, and gums, or should I be concerned he got some tooth damage somewhere, and it may be decay, or teeth that are dying. Should I take him to the vet? He has had a habit of biting down on our covers, or blankets for a while now... I was thinking this may be his way of dealing with a toothache. Do some dogs just like a security blanket.... like putting something in their mouth? Is it a bad habit like sucking a thumb?

Hopefully someone has some answers for me! Thanks in advance!

Female Staffordshire Bull Terrier. She is white with a few brindle patches on her body and one over her right eye. She also has a mild temperament. Thanks for your input.

Thank you for your reply. It gives me hope and encouragement because Sophie is my baby, as I know they all are. Can you tell my how long your Pom was paralyzed and on steroids? Mine has been since Saturday night, and my vet wants to make a decision by Friday. I'm just wondering how long she can go without moving her back legs since yours was paralyzed for some time and then regained movement. I just saw her at lunch, and there's not one bit of movement yet . . . but I don't want to give up too soon. She also has a heart condition, collapsing trachea (congenital defects) and is 10 years old, so surgery is out of the question.

Thank you again for reading and replying to my questions. As I wrote, my spirits are lifted and I am encouraged -- the more time she and I have, the better.

Thanks,
Kathryn

My parents are getting microchips injected into my dogs as a result of some new law in NM. Do these microchips pose any threat to my dogs health? Even if there is not substantial evidence, I would really like to know about it.

Thank you

I have a yellow lab who sheds SO much, no matter how often I vacuum our house is full of white hair. She even sheds while sitting completely still. I've heard that the Dyson animal vacuum is good, but does anyone have any experience with this one? Or better yet, does anyone know of a really good one that is not terribly expensive?

I have a mixed breed 5 yo female dog. She has always had serious separation anxiety - she hides under the bed and sometimes GROWLS at us when we try to get her out to put her in her pen. She has to stay in a pen when we are gone because she tears up the house and puddles due to nervousness. She seems to be getting worse lately. All morning she will pant and dart from hiding place to hiding place and try to sit on me and press against me. If she thinks someone is coming to get her to put her in her cage she will leave a puddle. This is unbelievably annoying, but I am also concerned with her quality of life. What we've done: we have her favorite beanbag chair in her pen with food and water and toys; we take her with us whenever possible, but it's not always possible, esp at this time of year when it is getting too warm in the car; we give her olive oil each day which has helped a bit. I know there is something the vet can prescribe, but it is $60/month. Any suggestions?

There is a rescue going on in Engelwood Florida as we speak.

Almost 5 weeks ago a puppy mill rescue named Annie, a small female Bichon Frise, bolted from her foster mom while out on a walk near a wildlife sanctuary that is replete with alligators, panthers and turkey buzzards. Until last week she still had her pink leash attached to her collar.

There are volunteers who site her daily and who have come as close to her as two feet.

They have tried everything, tranq darts, weighted nets, humane traps, singing, food, you name it.

They were able to dart her once but lost her in the brush.

They need a gps dart, which they have been told may run up to $3000, and the SmallPaws Rescue organization just can't pony up that kind of money.

If anyone out there can loan this direly needed piece of equipment to this effort please contact Robin (the head of the rescue and she is at the site now) at pup3@aol.com or contact her through www.smallpawsrescue.org

Thank you for any help

We took her from a lady that couldn't care for her anymore and was going to put her to sleep. Her name is Gigi and she's adorable. We're keepng her, but she has some problems with her back.

My question is this: We already have 6 dogs! Two of which are in kennels all the time because one is dog aggresive and the other is a piddler. Another is in the kennel 70% of the time because he is 9 yrs old and still not potty trained. One dog is in the house, but if she's not laying on the rug, she gets yelled at. Two dogs are with my mom constantly, and if any other dog tries to get near her, the two shar pei's will atack it and pretty much kill it.

Now this little 5 yr old toy poodle is in the house and mom is oohing and ahhing over it and its her new flavor of the month. How do I tell her that when I leave for summer, I dont want to know that GiGi is going to be either in a kennel her whole life or hurt very bad by aggresive dogs?

I have a min pin whom we call "shorty". He was diagnosed 2yrs. ago w/ CHF and we were told that he would not live longer than 6 mos maybe a yr. at close. We also had 3 diff. opinions and they all told us the same thing "give him the greatest gift" and "that is quality of life". Shorty eats great, bask's in the sun luvs us very much. Not to mention his loyalty to me. I give him "quality of life" by spending most of my time (post katrina) w/him and I can never even imagine putting him to sleep. They say "a dog is a man's best" not true he is "a lady's best friend.

I've been looking at Kraftwerk K9, a breeding kennel of German Shepherds located in Washington, I was wondering if anyone has bought puppies from them? it's pretty pricey, but something atracts me to their website and I am pretty convinced with their work.

My 3 month old boxer would'nt eat his food so I put a couple drops of steak sauce in it so he could eat just a little bit. Is this ok? I'm not sure if there is something in it that dogs should'nt have.

Well, this is more of a poll than a question. It's Spring! Which means there is plenty of pollen in the air. I was wondering how many of you have a dog that is showing signs of pollen allergies. My 9 week pup is sneezing quite often when I bring him outside now that the pollen is in the air...But, it's not causing a breathing problem or anything. So I am not worried that it can be anything worse. And he is up to date on shots...

But, how many of you also have a dog with pollen allergies?

1) general appearance
2) Penguins breeding habits
3) how many breeds

P.S I greatly appreciate it! I know I may sound a little stupid but this is quicker then just looking it up.

What kind of reaction do you get from my question? Do you think it's okay to proceed with breeding my wonderful Golden? I have no experience in canine breeding, so I plan to consult with my dog's vet.

Opinions? Am I doing something wrong? Will someone want to stop me?

(Not to be taken seriously. I do not have a Golden Retriever to breed. The only truth to my hypathetical question is that I have zero experience with breeding. I just want to make a point. BASH ME, as if I'm saying the truth...please. I want minds to be changed when the slightest inkling of breeding "just because" pops up in people's minds.)
