A vet told me that i may have triggered the barking instinct in my dog from when he was a pup unknowingly, that these are always the reasons why a dog nuisance barks...How and why? I can't agree as dogs just bark, it's in their OWN natural instincts to bark...Agree? Disagree?

Okay here's the deal-
•main thing is that we have two cats
• are gone from 7-3 with school and work
• we do not like small dogs (anything over say 40 lbs is great)
• have a large yard and are an active family when we are home
based on this what dog breed fits us?

I have two 7 month old Pit bull pups. The problem is that they are both male, and one is neutered (the dominant one) and the passive one is not neutered yet. I have an aggression problem with one of them, the neutered one will always try to attack the other one for no reason, they usually get a long but he likes to be a traitor sometimes. I'm going to sign them up for training classes at Petco, in hope that they will get along with eachother. I just want to know if the training will actually be efective in this type of situation...

Know people who always get the boosters done and some who never have. Some people say its not worth anything. Have 2 older dogs and am going to the vet tomorrow. Sometimes I have had them done and sometimes not. They have now elapsed. Are they really necessary for an older dog?

Hi, I was thinking about getting a Sheltie, but I have a question. I live in VIrginia, and it gets HOT in the summer. The Dog would be mostly inside in air conditioning, but still.

okay, I have a thing against heat. I get hot easily and HATE heat, so maybe that's why I'm so obsessed. I can't stand the thought of a poor puppy being uncomfortably hot.

My actual question is.. Do Professional groomers have "haircuts" that they can give to a Sheltie (not shaving, but cutting the hair short to remove alot of bulk). Something that wouldn't look weird?

Can they do that?
Will it help a long-haired dog be more comfortable in the heat?

Was just told my dog in early stages of it. What exactly happens when your dog is at the vet's office for 3 days for treatment? Do you need to do anything special for the dog once back home? Is $650 a high price? Vet did not explain much, thinking of going elsewhere for a 2nd opinion!

I got a question. I called my vet and he said she will be fine. But i was wondering if anyone knew for sure. cause im getting mixed opinons from family members. She went potty and hundereds of fire ant bites. I have to hose her down and pluck them off cause they were attached to her skin. her legs are now swollen. vet said give her a benidryl. They said it wouldnt affect the puppies. Would the posion for the ant bits or the meds hurt her puppies if allowed to nurse. babys are 4 weeks old.

Okay so my family and I really want a dog. We however are gone during the day (work and school). In our house we have 2 cats. Our yard is medium to large and our house is fairly large. We are defintely against getting a dog smaller than say 50-60 lbs. We have looked into German Shepherds and Newfoundlands and they are deftinely our favorites. Except that GSD are prone to chasing and killing cats and Newfoundlands drool a lot and shed quite a bit. A breed that we can pretty much cross off our list is a Golden Retriever and Lab. Both fine dogs but we are not fond of them (too common and overbred). Any suggestions as to which breed would be good for our family?

P.S.- We live near a busy street (but would have an electric fence) and do like the hounds and setters (mostly Gordon Setter and Bloodhound)
Also, can anyone tell me anything about Bernese Mt. Dogs and Canaan Dogs. We like both of those and seem to fit our lifestyle in general. Detail on both breeds would be greatly appreciated

i find it extremly Sad that cali would even think of passing law SB 861 (forcing owners to spay/nuter "any breed of dog that they see fit or call dangerious. this is done by breed only!) It is not the dogs fault it is the owners. I have seen MANY MANY MANY good dogs that are so called dangerious. In fact the only dog i would EVER get my son is a german shep which is considered dangerious. What is everyone's oppninon on this??

My fox terrier likes to grab a mouth full of food and bring it out to the living room. Then she drops it and eats it one piece at a time. Then goes back for more. I think she is afraid to miss out on something.
