I have two 7 month old Pit bull pups. The problem is that they are both male, and one is neutered (the dominant one) and the passive one is not neutered yet. I have an aggression problem with one of them, the neutered one will always try to attack the other one for no reason, they usually get a long but he likes to be a traitor sometimes. I'm going to sign them up for training classes at Petco, in hope that they will get along with eachother. I just want to know if the training will actually be efective in this type of situation...

1. Petsmart and Petco classes are absolutely useless unless its bring your dogs in for socialization.

2. Petsmart and Petco will not take a dog that shows any signs of aggression - period

3. You NEED to get the other dog fixed. He is emitting a lot of testosterone and the other dog is viewing that as a threat.

4. For any kind of effective training you should hire an at home personal trainer. They tailor the training to your needs, asses you, the dogs, the environment. They will give you hands on one on one training. You are able to request certain needs (dogs not running off when the door is open, special tricks, training them to whistle, respecting certain bounderies).

You have great intentions and that should be commended, but enrolling your babies in a useless class at Petco you'll be wasting your time and money. And they don't know anything about relieving aggression (especially when they kick you out of the class if your dog shows signs).

You as the owner need to step up and set bounderies. There should be no fighting unless YOU the alpha initiate it. Punishment is easy... Tell them down! and keep them in down till YOU say they can get up. Down is a submissive gesture to you and everyone else in the room. If the "alpha" pit is the one starting it, YOU be the one finishing it. Put a leash on him in the house for better control. When he gets out of control grab the leash, tell him to down and keep him there. 10 min, 20 min, 30 min even up to and hour if need be.

It works wonders..how do I know??? My English Setter used to be dog aggressive.

Good Luck

Quality training from a good trainer or animal behaviorist may very well help in this situation, not so much to train the dogs, but to train YOU on how to handle this type of problem. Your dogs need to learn that NO bickering or fighting is ever allowed, and you need to learn how to make this happen without getting hurt.

Unfortunately, you have a breed that is often dog- aggressive, and your unneutered male is trying to defend himself. Neutering both your dogs may help a lot, or it may not help at all depending on why they are being aggressive.

I've never heard good things about training classes at places like Petco or PetSmart. Their instructors are poorly trained and are strictly limited in the type of training they can provide (to avoid lawsuits from clients). Usually, corrections of any sort are not allowed, and in this case, they will be needed. In most cases, their instructors are not trained in, or able to deal with aggression issues. I applied to be a trainer at PetCo once, and was told I "had too much experience".....Yikes.

In your situation, I doubt this type of class will do any good. Find a local kennel club and start 'real' classes with people familiar with your breed. Perhaps you need someone to come to your home and ascertain if it's the dogs that are causing the problem, or if something you are doing or the way you are acting or treating one or both dogs is causing the problem or making it worse. Taking a dog-aggressive dog to PetCo classes in overcrowded areas with clueless owners and poor instructors is asking for trouble. Your dogs' behavior will get worse, and you may very well injure someone else's dog.

It's often difficult to keep two males at the same time, particularly with some of the breeds like Pits, Rotties, etc. Unless you stop this now, your problem will only get worse. Your dogs are VERY young to be having these sorts of problems. You may very well have to place one of the pups in another home to avoid having to keep them separated or coming in some day to a dead dog. You will need to keep your dogs separated until this is resolved. A fight between two male Pits is not easily stopped, and you will most likely be badly hurt trying to stop it if it occurs.

Good luck.

Jeet Kune Do can be tremendously strong, nevertheless there are various varieties of Jeet Kune Do. They're all customized systems so who's teaching it issues essentially the most. I don't know if training classes will help. He may be just trying to make sure the other guy knows he's in control. It's still bad behaviour that should be corrected. Try the Dog Whisperer also known as Cesar Millan. He's really good. His show comes on the National Geographics Channel and he aslo has books. You can also check out his website at www.dogpsychologycenter.com
I hope this helps.

I don't know about aggressiveness, but when we took my dog to training class she improved so much. She is such a good dog now because of those classes and listens to us no matter what. Although I don't know how well Petco would be, we took our dog to a place where I live and the guy in charge was very good at his job.

I would consult with a trainer first before signing up an paying .Most trining facilitys could kick you out without a refund if your dog gets agresive toward another dog or owner .Speak with a trainer to weigh your options.Remember neither dog can be the Alpha dog .You are the Alpha and to remain in control you have to assert that you are the head dog in the house.

It might. If it doesn't work, for the safety of the passive dog one has to go.

Good luck.
