My cocker spaniel was a bit like that - never seemed to tuck in to his food. I reduced the amount of dry food and top it up with half a puppy pouch (pedigree) - now he tucks in until his bowl is clean!. I feed mine twice a day - am and pm. Small cup of bakers complete and half a puppy pouch each feed. Obviously, as he is still a pup you need to put him on a puppy dry food.

You don't say how often you feed him, he should be having a couple of small meals a day in my opinion. I wouldn't feed dry food purely because I wouldn't like to eat it, would you? My dogs are fed on chicken carcasses, raw, never cooked. You can get these from the butcher I add fresh vegetables which I cook with ours and some good quality biscuit. If you do decide to change, crush the whole carcass with a rolling pin at first until he gets used to it then he will soon be able to crush them himself. My dogs never have bad teeth, never have wind or the runs, are never over weight and, before anyone suggests it, I've never had a dog with 'bloat'.
If you decide to stick with the dry food give him little and often, if he hasn't eaten it after about 10 minutes pick it up and dispose of it then feed him again at the usual time.
Good luck

Your probably giving him too much to eat,so long as he's in good health is wormed and has lots of energy I would cut down on his food. Give him 2 meals a day he only has a small tummy and if he doesn't finish it after 5 minutes or so take it up You can then give him it mixed with his tea. A lot of food packets tell you to feed your dog too much you use more then, so buy more.Don't forget that complete feeds have a balanced meal and giving him a lot of extras is going to undo this balance, so if you want to give him all the meat etc it might be best to mix it with plain dog biscuit mix.

Just feed him the dog food. There's no need to give him all the extra - lamb heart, mince beef or chicken. Dog food is well balanced to give the dog everything it would need to grow up healthy. Royal Canin is one of the best dog foods out there so keep him on that.

To entice him to eat a bit - put water on his food and put it in the microwave. It brings out the aroma and the dogs find it more alluring. You can also put chicken or beef broth on the food. It's all natural and brings out the smell and helps w/ the flavor a bit.

Refrain from the canned stuff. It gets stuck in between the teeth and causes rot and decay.

Good Luck

Don't force him to eat. Like a baby, he will eat if hungry. Look for a puppy formula; ask your vet for the best kind if you don't know.

Dry feed is hard for a "baby" so put a little water or some broth on it to soften it before you give it to him, especially with all the canned food poisoning.

Feed him in the same place and same times every day. Feed him three times a day. I would not leave the food down because puppies are known to have to GO after they eat.

Congratulations on your baby/puppy

First of all, stop the meats - he will, like all other dogs, want to have that in preferene to dry food. Wouldnt you!?!??

Dogs will stop eating when they are done. They are like humans, forcing them to eat will make them fat and unwell. Some dogs will not eat alot for ages, then they get into eatting and have no problems polishing off their dinner.
My dog will sometimes eat nothing more than a few mouth fulls and then leave it. That can go on for a few days, then he eats the whole meal.
Dont make an issue over the food - take the lead (no pun intended!!!) from your dog.

He will eat when he wants it but i am going to obediance classes at the moment and the person who takes it recomends that you give him just one kind off food and that should be the biscute type with a protean level at about 20%. Its the protean that they need for growth i have a 6 mounth old american bull dog and i give him doctor jouns its £7 for a 15 kg sack and he is comming along fine he is 6 and a half stone hope this helps you. good luck

Chill out, you have him on one of the best diets on the market! Dogs that eat a premium food will eat less than a cheap cereal based food. I think he is eating only what his body is telling him to eat. Offer 2 cups in the am and if you want 1 more in the eve. The bags always say to feed more than what they will. As long as he is eating, good stools and acts healthy stop worrying he is OK! If he acts ill, get him checked by your vet!

it sounds like your doing a good job with your dogs diet ,but younger dogs should be fed a few times through the day, at five months you should be feeding him 2/3 times a day , or maybe your putting out to much food. although at 5 months a staffie should be very active and have quite an appetite, are you exercising him enough? , i have 2 staffies and they cry for there food ( from ayoung age ) . if you can find some were legal to let him off his lead . i find just walking isn't enough.

He will eat as much as he wants. Dogs are the same as humans, they are individuals and not all need the same amount to eat. If you force feed him you will make him greedy and overweight. Let him decide when he has had enough. Dogs need meat but also vegetables, which comes in the dry roughage biscuits. If you are feeding him proper meat then do not give him biscuits with meat in them, only a mixer to give the proper roughage. Give him treats that clean his teeth or have vitamins, even yoghurt but let him decide when enough is enough.
