did you check out t he parents?? the breeder?? you should know by how they looked...sounds like you didn't do your research prior to buying this pup?? you should have seen both parents, visited the kennel, sought out previous buyers to see the quality of pups these dogs have... if you did not do this then you might have a pup with more than the "uglie" it souds like its not well bred (with the legs) and who knows what other kind of issues are going to come up as this pup grows.... just love it as your child and dont hate it or think of it as deformed... think of it as "SPECIAL" and deal with it....
EDIT: to the haters out there giving me the thumbs down for being honest... go outside and listen to some birds, drink a cup of coffee, hug your pet, do something other than hating... its so sad... I am sending a big hug to you haters.....smile

Yes, generally 5 months is NOT a good age! Most pups go through the 'uglies' about this time. I'm not sure what age Poms usually mature (I train/show larger breeds) but in many breeds, physical maturity is not reached until 2 -3 years or even later. You may find your 'ugly duckling' looks completely different at the age of 3.... :-)
In general, a well-bred dog should return conformationally to the angles, movement, and structure it showed at 8 weeks. If he had a good topline, nice angulation, and proper ratio of leg length to body size at that time, he will more than likely return to a nice appearance when he's mature.
If your dog was purchased from a quality breeder, you should have received photos showing both parents to know what your puppy has a good chance of looking like at maturity. Ask the breeder how his/her pups usually grow. If you bought your pup at a pet shop or through a shelter, you may just have to wait and see what he looks like when he grows up. There is a wide variation in quality from line to line in dogs, particularly in Pomeranians and other toy breeds, who are often poorly-bred because of their popularity. You will find larger dogs, smaller dogs, dogs with heavier coat, dogs with less coat, long-legged dogs, short legged dogs, and everything in between.
Good luck with your pup.

I don't think it is normal I also have a female pom and her legs are short too. It depends how long his legs are if they are much longer then the females that is not normal. Usually female poms are taller and a little larger then males. Also it depends if your female has shorter legs because she is a toy or miniature if she is then it may be normal for the male.(because he may be a regular sized pom)

My friend has a Male Pom and his legs are kind of long but they are very thick and muscular and his paws are huge.
She also has a female and her legs are long but very skinny and she has tiny paws.
