She wants to be with the family, plus wouldn't you want to sit or lay down on something soft while you were eatting. My dog take a mouth full of his dinner over to the carpet and drops it all then eats it piece by piece, the carpet is no more the 4 feet from the kitchen table. So it must be something that all dogs do.

If your kitchen has vinyl on the floor and a carpet in the living room, that will cause a dog to want to eat in there. They resist eating on something like vinyl or concrete because in the wild they eat on the grass. Carpet most resembles grass. She will put as much food in her mouth as possible at a time...some dogs drag the whole bowl!!! Dogs are just as picky as humans...maybe more so! Try a carpet sample (small square) under the dogs bowl. If everyone is in the living room at her feeding time...do you like to eat alone?

Sometimes dogs dont like eating in front of anyone else
My friends dog does the same thing.
a fox terrier is a small dog right?
if so, i think little dogs eat their food in small bites so they keep going back for more cuz they havent figured it out yet that they can carry more than once piece at a time.

I have several dogs-Only the neo mastiffs do that. Drives me crazy. Stepping on a hard chuck of dog food in bare feet can hurt too. I wish somebody could answer this as to why.Mastiffs already hold half their food in their jowls for a long time, and it just falls, drools and hangs there. That, I am used to-but they grab a mouthful-walk to the carpet-drop it-then eat. Repeat till done. UGH!!!!!! WHY?????????????

My shih tzu does the same thing. I read once that they do it because a lot of times in nature or even in a house where food has to be shared that dogs will take a bunch and eat it elsewhere to ensure that they get plenty of food without being bothered. Don't know if that's true or not, but I wouldn't be worried. I think it's kind of cute.

Well I have a small pom and 3 other dogs when I feed them she does the same thing. i think it is because she doesn't want to show the other dogs that she is eating food( although they are eating at the sam time) Some times she even brings it in front of everyone or in front of the t.v. maybe like you said she doesn't want to miss out on anything.

I have 2 pomapoos and they will both bring 1 piece to the living room and eat it ,then go back for more. Kinda funny. It seems as though they want to eat closer to mom and dad.

My rottweiler does the same thing but he will bring it where ever we are. I think they just want to be near us when the eat. My dad has a toy poodle who takes a mouth full then spits it out on the carpet to eat it. Maybe they just don't like their dishes.

It goes back to their culture when a pack of dogs would hunt and kill an animal then get their share( which for you would be a mouthful) then eat their food.

I have 2 dogs that do it. I dont have carpet so the "grass" theory is out the window. MY choice of theory is much more along the lines of competiveness. They dont share and seem to be afraid the other will take their share even though they have feeding bowls in seperate areas.
