He looks sad and just lays down all day and to top it off he wont eat..I would want to take him to the vet but i dont have any money at the moment.what do i do?

Find a way. It is your responsibility to that animal that you brought into your house to make sure it has everything it needs. To many times people put off what an animal needs because of money and that is not fair to the animal. What if it was you child think about that.

Call a local vet NOW!!! Could be anything from just lonely to parvo! At the most a vet may want to see him( and in some cases let you charge it).
