What kind of reaction do you get from my question? Do you think it's okay to proceed with breeding my wonderful Golden? I have no experience in canine breeding, so I plan to consult with my dog's vet.

Opinions? Am I doing something wrong? Will someone want to stop me?

(Not to be taken seriously. I do not have a Golden Retriever to breed. The only truth to my hypathetical question is that I have zero experience with breeding. I just want to make a point. BASH ME, as if I'm saying the truth...please. I want minds to be changed when the slightest inkling of breeding "just because" pops up in people's minds.)

If this message changes minds, who cares about 5 points. I really could care less about my "rating" on this Answers website.

You got it!

First of all, backyard breeders who try to make a buck off the family pet are ignorant and abusive and their animals should be taken away and adopted out to families who really do want a family pet.

Second, the odds of having a healthy litter from a six month old are just slighlty less than the odds of the six month old actually surviving the pregnancy and whelping.

What are you going to do when half the puppies are born blind or crippled or so small they can't breathe on their own?

Have you given a single thought to the genes you are promoting? Do you have a clue what kind of recessive genes are in your wonderful lab's line?

What will you do with the puppies if all the worst genes from all of the unknown ancestors of your dog appear in this first litter? Toss them into the trash? Try and sell them anyway?

Are you willing to watch your dog die during any part of the process?

How about if your dog doesn't die, but becomes ill and you haven't a clue what to look out for?

Don't wait until you have something to regret, your beautiful dog is a one in a million dog. Not knowing her line, the defects in her line, the breeds that contributed to her line, makes any litter she would have a crapshoot. Only, crapshoots have better odds of turning out well.

Spay and neuter your animals people!

I have nothing against others wanting to breed their dogs...Even tho the dog/cat population is too high and many are in shelters waiting on a new home only to be rejected and put to sleep.

But, 6 months is way tooooo young for a female to be bred. She has to be at least 2 years old. (Yes, I know that you don't have a Golden to breed. I just had to say this because some people still ask the question of "Is she too young to breed?" Or "Is 11 months old enough to breed my dog?")

I myself know nothing about breeding, so I tend to shy away from breeding questions. But, I would recommend researching it on AKC.com or ask a vet. You could even talk to some good reputable breeders and see what they have to say about it and get some good tips.

And one more thing...If you(not talking about you...just people in general) do not know if you dog is even old enough to breed...You might as well get them spayed/neutered...Because that just shows you know NOTHING about it, and would only contribute to the over-population....
