I have a yellow lab who sheds SO much, no matter how often I vacuum our house is full of white hair. She even sheds while sitting completely still. I've heard that the Dyson animal vacuum is good, but does anyone have any experience with this one? Or better yet, does anyone know of a really good one that is not terribly expensive?

I'd also like to find something that is easy and effective for a rather large area of carpet, as my son will be crawling soon and I'd hate for him to biff on the carpet and come up with a mouthful of dog hair!

Dyson is so expensive. I bought a Eureka it's yellow, with a paw, it's bag-less & it has a hepa fliter. Eureka Altima Turbo Bagless Upright SpinDuster, 2961AVZ. It was 60% CHEAPER than the Dyson. The Eureka won for the best vaccum by Good Housekeeping last year. The reason I bought mine is because comsumer report said it was great compared to the other pricey vaccumes like Dyson. I love it, it picks up everything. I bought mine @ Wal-mart for $80.
I have a Kriby that cost $1000.00 but I hate it!
good luck

Kirby by far is the best vac ever. Although it is rather expensive. I think our cost about $2500. With the Kirby you can also vacuum the dog. It has a special attachment for it. A less expensive way might be to rent a carpet cleaner or really good vacuum and buy a stop shed shampoo for the dog. We use this shampoo on our pug and it works great!

I have had the best luck with my Oreck vacuum. Out of all the vacuums I have had in the past, this one is absoutely the best. I have a Saint Bernard and a Newfoundland who are both heavy shedders and this vacuum does the trick! At the animal clinic I work at we also use an Oreck. Not only does it do a good job, but the vacuum is so lightweight. Good luck! Enjoy your lab!!

Dyson animal is very good, I have one and it picks up most of my golden retrievers hair, they're not the cheapest around mid priced I'd say. The kirby is also supposed to be very good but I think theses are quite pricey.

There's nothing better than a Dyson Animal!!!! I'm getting married in May, and that's the very first item I put on my registry!!!! IT'll even suck the dirt and hair that gets stuck on the crack between your baseboards and walls!!!!

Any Vacuum that is Eureka, must be a dual stage motor. Thse vacuums will last you 3o plu years. This machine will even jam the corners of area rugs and suck them in. They are amazing , but they do ahve to have the dual; stage motor.

The best thing I have found is not a vacuum but a broom! It's called the "One Sweep". It has soft nylon bristles and a handle that is in segments so you can shorten it to do upholstery too. It builds up static and traps the hair something wonderful. It also works on bird feathers. I found mine online at the "As seen on T.V." website. It was less than $20.

Dyson-either the Animal or DC14 or newest 15. I won't own any other kind ever again.
