Have you gotten it yet or still deciding? Cause if you haven't gotten him yet, let me give some advice. I have a border collie pure bred, and although she is the most intelligent dog I have ever owned she has a very annoying temperament she is 5 and still has not grown out of this. Because the border collie you're looking at is border collie mix with lab,it is like adding a shot of espresso to an already hyper dog. I love my dog, and our lives wouldn't be the same without her but she is non stop all the time, you can't laugh or be loud at all because she runs in circles throughout the house, around the kitchen table, shakes her toys like crazy and breaks things because she doesn't watch where she is going. I have two kids now and when we bought our dog we had no kids so her high energy was fine but now that life has more demands with our children she is jealous and spiteful you might not believe me but she is a smart dog and she manipulates things like a rebellious teenager so if you have a young family or don't have a whole lot of time to devote to your pet beware, I know you probably have your heart set but this is my personal experience so just giving you a heads up. As far as food these dogs shouldn't get over weight so we use iams a big bowl once daily and lots of water. Also border collies can scare easy and end up peeing or snapping, good luck.

To young to do tug-o-war. How about frisbee and playing fetch?
Also walks in the park is really good exercise.

For healthy coats, Purina ProPlan mixed with Purina wet canned food with things such as pepperoni or anything else mixed in is VERY good for the coat. My dog gets compliments all the time from the vet. 'People' food scraps too is also good. You can give him yogurt, and scrambled eggs are very good for his coat.
