Most dogs hate being cooped up all day so I don't think any dog would be good for your situation. What I will suggest to you is adopt an adult cat from a shelter. Cats are great pets and they don't mind staying alone all day, as they are very independant. They are very affectionate and loving if you talk to them and they are loyal pets. Leave food and kitty litter in her box and she will be fine. When you come home you will have a pet that will greet you at the door and she'll sit on your lap and lick you and love you. That is the way to go...believe me as dogs need much more care and work and leaving them all day is unfair. Dogs need walking and the company of humans, and if you do adopt a dog, you will be filled with guilt about leaving her all day. Adopt a cat, and you will be so happy. I assure you. My Abysinnian cat Natasha will vouch for that...Meow..............

Most small or toy sized breed dogs do well in apartments.
Chihuahuas and yorkies are popular and charismatic breeds. If you are looking to adopt, you will probably be able to find a small mixed breed. Little dogs tend to be barkers, however, so be prepared to do some training so that your dog does not become a loud pest in your building.
I agree with the others, it seems like you are away a lot during the week. Not only will it be lacking socialization if you are away that long, but it won't be able to hold it's bladder that long!
If you are not able to take breaks during the day to spend time with the dog, perhaps you can hire someone to come and walk the dog a few times during the day. Doggy daycare is also a good option, it is usually not too expensive (depending on where you live).
Also, make sure you will have the time to spend a lot of time with it when you are home. Little dogs need lots of exercise just like big dogs do! As a bonus, it will be a better behaved apartment dog if it does not have a lot of extra energy!

I would get a dog over a year old so that the bladder is deveoloped. I got a dog at 13 months old and he was housetrained and past the chewing stage. Yet young enough to adapt and love us. He would actually be a great apartment dog as he never is outside alone. If we put himself, he just barks... he wants to be with us the whole time. We kennel him when we leave. He is a cockapoo. We do have to spray him to keep him from barking alot as we live in a suite. We never 'walk the dog', but he does go with us everywhere we go if dogs are allowed.

A cat would be a better idea.. Unless you are going to rescue an older adult that isn't needing to go outside all the time.. Check a dog that is maybe 9 or 10 years old and not so active.. Won't care much about being alone soooooo long, they will be sleeping most of the day.

Sadly with the hrs you work, none.
Unless you can arrange for someone to come and take care of your dog at about the halfway point or you come home for lunch, it would be innapropriate to have a dog (even in a house) - no matter the size.

Well I believe that you can only have certain dogs in apartments anyways. They have to be within a weight requirements as well. Maybe a toy dog, a terrier, bull dog. But if you have a schedule like that then you should get a dog that is definetely house broken.

You need to save a house trained under twenty lbs. Heinz 57 pound dog. When you leave the house be certain to leave a radio on a talk show station. It will keep him company and your neighbors will not have to complain because of lonely doggie sounds.
Dog=work, consistency and love, be certain you are ready to commit.

To be fair to the dog, I would not get one yet. You are gone too long during the day and apartment living is not fair for the dog while you are gone to be locked up in a crate. think of the dog's perspective not your own
