I really want a lab, and I am much more of a "big dog" person, but people are starting to tell me how hard a big dog is, and its a bad idea, etc. Is getting a smaller dog really that much easier?

Often I am patting near his face but not always. Once or more a day I always like to sit down with my dog for a pat and a chat - we both love it! He is a 9.5 yr old Akita and becoming fraile.

So my dog had pink paw pads when she was a baby, but i noticed after a little while it turned black. i know her paws didn't just change colors. I think it might be because of just walking around? Is this common? and is there anyway to get them back to pink? Is it good that its thicker and darker now, because it seems like its more protective than soft pink pads

I've seen this dog recipie book at Cost Plus, but holy cow it's $13.00 for a small little booklet, besides I don't think I can buy it, photocopy it, then return the book. LOL. I've got one 8 year old mixed terrier (pitbull & rot) and a 1 year old adopted black dog with a long beak (lol--she's not my favorite). How can I mixed up some good dog treats like carob brownies or dog edible biscotti with household ingredients? Thanks!

We have a 7 month old puppy. I am going to start a new job in Mid-January which will keep my away from home 8 hours a day , 3 days a week. I've been working from home for the last 8 months (since we got her). Our puppy is crate trained and a very even tempered mutt. But we've been having a chewing issue for the last 4 weeks which makes me hesitant to leave her out while I'm away. In the last month, she's chewed an area rug, vertical blinds and a computer wire! She has a lot of toys, a KONG (with treats stuffed inside) and many stuffed toys. She has destroyed every stuffed toy we've given her - we've had to throw away some of the toys as she opened them up and pulled out the stuffing.

I have bitter apple, so any other advice would be appreciated. I'd love to leave her with run of the house, but I'm afraid she will chew something and be sick or worse.

Thanks!

Hi all, some information about me and my family:

Me : Male, 30 //
Ex-Pet Owner? : kept no pets at all (Parents are keeping fish), first time considering dogs as pets. //
Family Background : Parents & me only. All 3 of us are working day-jobs and leave the house early and comes back evenings. We're free on weekends & holidays; hardly travel. //
Dog we're interested in : Pembroke Welsh Corgi //
Apartment size : 6th floor, 4 room apartment, reasonably big for a small dog //
Interest in dogs : For me, VERY HIGH. I have read up all about Welsh Corgis and their temperament, hygiene and care. But unsure if I can give it the attention it needs... but definitely will reserve time each day to play and care for it. //

Based on the information above, do you guys think I can keep a dog? Is there any solution or alternative on how busy families can keep dogs as pets?

i have a 9 month old chihuahua puppy and we just moved into a house with two cats. since we moved he's been eating the cat food almost exclusively and he looks really thin (you can see his ribs). he still poops regularly and acts normal but i'm still worried. people continue to remark that he is really skinny. is there a risk of him being malnourished because he's not eating the right kind of food? what can i do to make him eat his own food? please help, he's my best friend in the world!

Most of you were correct.. Dog#1 15 votes, dog#2 13 votes
It was dog#1 who attacked his owner bit her on the face, and left severe gashes on her lower lip. It was not because he was abused or in pain or afraid, it was because his owner misinterpreted his signals and neglected to address or recognize his food aggression. The dog had a rawhide bone which his owner gave him, then she attempted to play a game with him using the rawhide like a stick...she bent forward to snatch the bone playfully from the dog and he jealously attempted to protect his bone by crouching and growling over it... she froze and then he lunged at her face and grabbed her bottom lip leaving 2 deep torn gashes which left some scars. Luckily she was not seriously maimed, she did keep the dog and admit her fault. Although never violently or physically abused dog#1 had been poorly trained and became aggressive with food because his owner did not spend the time to train him she was too busy with school and friends.

I want to take my dog to the park and let him run, but the only safe place at the park is the fenced in tennis court (its a small park). However, people keep telling me that I shouldn't let my dog run on the tennis courts, something about their feet - whats the deal with tennis courts and what exactly can it do to my dog's feet?

Luke_ah came to me about 2 months ago with very badly worn down paw pads and nails, a very dirty area under his neck neck and Very red southern parts. Since we have had him, the other conditions have healed but every time we take him to the park, his paws start to bleed. How log should it take for his pads to get tough again? How can I help him in the mean time, they get so bad that they bleed?

My vet has my beagle puppy getting a dhlpp shot every 3 weeks until he is 20 weeks old. Which means he will have 6 by the time he is done. And she also said that we cannot take him outside until they are all complete. Ive had dogs my whole life and I thought it was always that they just neededd 3 at 6 weeks 9 weeks and 12 weeks. Has any one else heard of puppysgetting 6 dhlpp shots?

First off, Happy New year, and thank you to the previous people who helped me with Olivia, my Yorkshire Terrier. But, I yet again have an issue with her.

She always shakes and cowers after we watch a movie or play music, even if it's not very loud. She is going to be 7 months soon, and she weighs under 4 pounds as of now. She pants and paces nearby the doorway, or cowers to my mom's bedroom and sits in the same spot. We looked around and found nothing strange. She likes to go outside and she usually smells where males "marked" territory, and leaves a scent as well. We are not sure if she is in Heat or there is a psychological/physical issue. She has never acted up this way. We made an appointment for the vet, this behaviour has lasted for 3 days almost. We also think that maybe her teeth hurt? Her top teeth, I think, has the adult tooth growing over the baby one. Hard to describe, there's a straight tooth, then a smaller one curling backwards. Is the small one a baby tooth? Thanks!
