yes, jumping could of done it, it might be sprained, fractured or broken, just like with humans, sometimes its not the hardness or length of a fall, its how exactly you land, what pressure is put on what bone,, i suggest taking him to the vet,, its best to know, if it is something serious, treatment can be done, if not serious, you wont have to worrry

Jumping off the bed could have done it! Almost any trauma such as jumping, running into something or simply turning wrong could damage something. He could have just sprained it or it could be serious. Something also could have fallen on him, something as simple as a book could do serious damage.
It could also be a moveable knee cap (very common in small dogs)
If you can afford it, take him to the vet, I highly recommend it! They will need to do an exam, maybe x-ray and possibly medication or even surgery.
If you can't afford it, or simply want to try something at home first. Try to feel his leg to see if it is broken, trust me, you will know something isn't right compared to his other leg. If its not broken, or you can't feel it, confine him to a very small space, such as a crate for 24 hours with a couple VERY short assisted walks, the goal is as little movement as possible in his leg. If he seems to get a little better, repeat for a week or more.
If it isn't getting better you will have to take him to the vet!
Good luCK!

Jumping off the bed could certainly lead to an injury, ranging from a sprain to a torn ligament, from a break to a dislocated hip. Take him to the vet tomorrow. If he is an adult, you could probably give him 1/4 of an adult aspirin or 1/2 of a baby aspirin to help with pain. Absolutely do NOT give ibuprofen or Tylenol. Aspirin only.

Hi I have a 7 year old Boxer and one day out of the blue she started to limp on her back leg. She did not like me to touch it and was the only time in her 7 years that she got snippy. I brought her to our vet and found out she had the early start of arthritus. There are several kinds of vitamins you can give your dog for this. It takes a couple of months to work, but the results are like a mircle. She still has some bad days. (we have a boxer puppy who is trying to keep her young and always active) On those bad days we give her asprin or a pain killer from the vet. It is like she is a puppy all over again.

Yes, if he likes to jump on and off things like your couch/bed/whatever, he might have fractured something in his leg. If he still walks on it, it might just be a bruise. To be safe, you should take him to the vet--regular vet, not emergency--and have them x-ray it. X-rays are usually fairly cheap (under $100, much cheaper usually) and they can see what he's done to it. More than likely you won't even need a cast, but you should do it to find out and they can give you pain killers for him if he needs it. Do not give him human medicine, even if he is in pain--go to the vet and let them decide.

How old is he? Animals experience arthritis and weakened bones with age like humans do. Is it possible that someone kicked him even by accident? Or that he got caught in a self closing door?
If it has continued more than a day, you really need to take him to a vet for a physical and probably an xray.

I agree with everyone else who says take him to the vet!! waiting could make it so much worse for your dog....I also want to add, do you do any sewing, or wrapped xmas presents in your room where clothing may have had a straight pin fall on the floor....he could have landed on something, I was always afraid of that when my children are young, a needle in a carpet is a very hard thing to see.......hope your dog gets better, my dad owns two and treats them like they are his children, almost literally!!!!!!

He could have jumped off the couch and landed on it wrong. He could have been stepped on by someone who doesn't want to "fess" up to it.

Take him to the vet for an x-ray if it doesn't get better soon.

I agree, vet trip is needed. Another thought is hip or knee dysplasia. My small breed mix dog had knee dyspasia and would screan with no one touching her. For hip or knee dysplasia surgery is always needed.
