So my dog had pink paw pads when she was a baby, but i noticed after a little while it turned black. i know her paws didn't just change colors. I think it might be because of just walking around? Is this common? and is there anyway to get them back to pink? Is it good that its thicker and darker now, because it seems like its more protective than soft pink pads

yes it is good that the paws are thicker and darker. if you walk barefoot all the time, eventually your feet will become hard and thick.

Actually the do naturally just turn black as they get out of young puppyhood and start to walk more. But it is not from walking. And not all dogs pads turn black.

Many white or multi colored dogs will remain pink. My shih tzu for example is 8 months old and has mostly pink pads with some blak, the pink is as thick and the black parts.

Paw pads thicken and get tougher with age and they serve as better shock absorbers too. I'm afraid you can't change them back to pink.

Indoor hands are pink. Outdoor hands are black. If you want the hands to be pink again, teach your pooch to use a litter box.
