Ok I was planning to head to the local shelter this weekend and possibly adopt a female beagle and have had my heart set on it. Today I was offered a chance to prevent a bassethound from even having to go to the shelter. My family has always wanted the bassethound. What would you do? Would you take the bassethound to prevent it from having to face the shelter life or would you let it go to the shelter (possibly) to get the shelter dog out?

The lady that i bought the BARF from at the pet deli told me to microwave it a little and slowly mix more raw food each time to 'trick' my dog into eating raw food. ..but i cant seem to put hardly any raw in if i want her to eat it! i know the point of BARF is that it is raw, but im wondering if i cant get her to eat it raw then is it ok to just microwave cook it for her???

Please let me know if you know anything about this as my dog is a Chihuahua and is soo small I dont want to be harming her by feeding her cooked versions of B.A.R.F

she had her first heat October 21st. That was a little over 3 months ago. i know that is much longer than a dog pregnancy. does she have to get pregnant during the bleeding part or can she get pregnant any time between heats. she has been sleeping all day and this morning she she was sitting up and (not gasping for air) but making the sound you hear when you're making a "puh" or "p" sound. shes usually very active. if she is pregnant or in labor, can her boyfriend be around her. I am 21, and about 7 months ago i moved out of my parents, and into an apartment with my boyfriend. Ever since i was little i have wanted a dog. But my parents are very anti animal, but especially anti dog, so i never got a dog of my own. So i started out by walking dogs and dog sitting for neighbors. Moved to volunteering at an animal shelter, and i now work at a veterinary clinic. I work with dogs everyday, and i have done research on dogs since i was in middle school. So now that i am on my own, and am sure i can afford a dog, i REALLY want one. It has gotten to the point that i don't feel i can go any longer without one. The only problem is that i am in love with the bully breed dogs. I really really love pit bulls. But my apartment has breed restrictions, and don't allow pit bulls, mastiffs, rotties, ect. and they named American Terriers. I am not sure what this means. I have 7 more months on the lease, and i can't wait that long to get my dog. I don't want to settle..........

He's a Norwegian Elkhound.. 9 month old pup. I have had him since 6 weeks and he's been a joy. Is totally obedient and has never once snapped or barked at me. He just gives this really sad low growl like I'm hurting him when I give him a soft bearhug. Is this his way of hugging me back? He and I are very "tight" I have loved this dog tremendously...

I have a 1.5 year old puppy. She is very hyper and likes to jump on people, which I have scolded her for many times. She just loves new people. She is usually very calm when it is just me and my fiance, but I am afraid she will jump on our baby, who is due in August. Is their any way to prepare my puppy for a new baby? I know to bring home a blanket, or clothing from the hospital with the baby's scent, but I don't think that will be enough for my puppy.

I was spraying my toilet bowl and he suddenly appeared out of nowhere and I accidently sprayed him in the nose and when I panicked and grabbed him up, he was licking his nose, (like most dogs do), while I was trying to wet a towel and clean out his nose and tongue. He seems ok, but I am still worried.

Is this a healthy thing? I am worried that if I keep letting him hump his toys his sex drive will increase...or something else harmful or negative.

Have 2 teenagers and a 2 and a half yr old. What has been your experience with the cane corso, the neopalitan mastiff, bull mastiff, english mastiff, great dane, english bulldog. I know alot from reading about these breeds but want to hear from people who have owned them with children. thanks

The reason I am looking for apuppy is because I have a 2 year old son. We had a beagle,but unfortally on new years eve the puppy was stolen. My son is very heart broken,and misses his do very much. I want a small indoor pup. That way we know where it's at all the time.

Can anyone say what they think is in my dog? He is highly intelligent, very friendly, playful and loving. Everyone that sees him says how big his head is, because he is not too big only 33 lbs. but kinda small too. just curious if anyone knows of another dog who looks similar or maybe what he has in him?
