That's the problem is that she is 5 months old!!! She probably won't stop biting things for a while. She want's to play, play, play. I guess you have to evaluate how much time you actually sit down and play with her throughout the day. Do you take her for walks? That really tires them out. Does she have enough stuffed animals and chew toys? She is still a baby and she is going to be annoying for like 4 more years. Plus, she is a little dog, and little dogs are just annoying all the time. I have a long-haired chihuahua who will be 3, and he is constantly annoying...but none the less...I love him to death!! You'll come to love it!!

Be firm, but not cruel, in disciplining her when she bites. Make sure that she has plenty of chew toys and teach her which things are ok to bite and which are not. Take her on walks so that she can use up a lot of her energy. She's a puppy. Puppies chew; it's just what they do! Train her properly and have patience as you wait for her to grow out of it.

I have a 5 month old Bichonpoo. I got her at 12 weeks. She had a biting and chewing problem. Every time she would bite or nip me I told her firmly (without yelling) "no bite", when she would chew something that she shouldn't I would tell her "no bite" and "switch" as I gave her a toy or bone to chew. She quickly learned what "no bite" and "switch" meant. I now have NO biting or chewing problem at all. The key is be consistent do it every time. Be persistent, don't yell, and don't hit. The dog will learn quickly if you use this method mine did.

she's just a puppy. 5 months! you have a long way to go. i have heard they don't grow out of that stage until about 2 years old. Mine are 10 and 9 months... and they chew everything. You just have to discipline when you catch her doing it... not after the fact, it never works. get her lots of chew toys as this is COMPLETELY NORMAL!!! she's like a teething baby you know

I just asked the question yesterday on how to stop a puppy from chewing everything. I think your puppy is just cutting teeth and hopefully will stop as soon as it's teeth are in.

Well, here's your answer: she is a PUPPY, and puppies like to chew! They do it to help with their new teeth coming in, to work their jaws, and well, dogs like chewing!
Try giving her a special toy or a rawhide to chew on in place of whatever she is going after. In this way, she may learn that HER things are for her to chew, not yours. When she does go after your property, give her a firm "NO!" and take the object away.
With patience, she will learn that 'her' items are for chewing and yours aren't. Good luck!

All puppies love to chew- it is because they are getting their new teeth-like babies do! Give her toys that she can't shred and swallow and play tug of war gently with her with an old rag or sock. It will help the annoying feeling she has in her mouth with the new teeth coming in- also give her Milk Bones or rawhide chew sticks to chew on.

i have a long haired miniature dachshund.shes 10. but i remember when we first got her..she would bite everythin.i dont necessarily think it's a dachshund thing..just a puppy thing.the best thing to do is when she does bite something or someone..juss gently tap her on the nose and say "no" at the same time.it will take a bit..but eventually she will catch on and realize that its not nice to bite.hopefully it will be soon tho...cuz those damn puppy teeth hurt.good luck.

you should try out a training school. also, you can "discipline" her, like if she chews on something you don't want her to chew on, put her outside. soon, it will get into her mind. i hope you know not to yell or hit a dog. Time, patience, firmness, wisdom, temper control, gentleness are the six must needed things when you are trying to train a puppy. They just don't understand how our world and mind works.
