I want to take my dog to the park and let him run, but the only safe place at the park is the fenced in tennis court (its a small park). However, people keep telling me that I shouldn't let my dog run on the tennis courts, something about their feet - whats the deal with tennis courts and what exactly can it do to my dog's feet?

I would worry about the ground causing problems with the dog's feet. I would get him some booties to help protect his feet, or at least start using pad tougheners on his feet.

My dogs have played in tennis courts before and I have never had any trouble, but they don't get to play in them much.

Please, don't use tennis courts as dog parks as they are not. Dogs do go about business there and there is no way you can clean up well after them. You are also setting up example for other dog owner who don't cleanup after their dogs! Tennis balls are always in contact with people's hands and the ground. There are usually rules posted on tennis courts and it would be appropriate and respectful to others to follow them. Just like you would not take your dog to public pool where people swim. Thank you!

You can let them run on the tennis court, but not too long and not a lot of hard stops or quick turns. The tennis court surface really tears the pads up. I've had it happen a lot, but it is a good safe place for some exercise, within reason.

I'm not sure about the dog's feet, but as a tennis player I'm not sure I want your dog doing his jobbies all over the court. I know you want to let your dog loose and be able to run but that isn't appropriate.
