My cat Patches was almost 17 and I took him to the vet this past Thursday and the Dr. said he was not metabolizing his food and he most likely had kidney failure and or diabetes and needed to be put down. I finally agreed and was there with him until the end but I am so sad and all I can see in my mind is my poor Patches laying on that table afterwards and I kissed his little head. I have another cat Muffin but I still miss Patches so much. Muffin walks from room to room at times as if she is looking for him. I can't do anything but cry and I'm wondering how long this is going to take to work through. I live alone with my cats and now with just Muffin. Should I get a kitten to go with Muffin or just wait awhile...I'm thinking I should wait to heal more......thanks.

My husband and I thought that our one year old house cat was just shedding excessively. Today, we saw our cat pulling hair from his back with his mouth. I have heard of cats doing this because of being nervous, but he is a happy cat and loves to play. He seems to have no worries, should I be concerned or take him to the vet?

I've been feeding a stray kitten for a couple of months now, but lately she's been hanging round more and more, so I let her in and in she's stayed. I've asked around and no-one seems to know who owns her, and no collar.

The thing is, she's pregnant. Or I think she is. She's very small still, I'd say about 6 months old, her belly's gotten bigger, her nipples have trebled in size and she's eating double what she was. Her tummy also feels hard. I'm happy to keep her, assuming nobody claims her, and one of her kittens too. She's become a house cat, I've got a litterbox for her and she seems happy here. I can't afford to take her to the vet for another 2 weeks though, and I'm scared she'll give birth before that. What do I do to prepare? How will I know when she's ready to give birth, and what do I do to to help? I'm also worried cos she's so small the kittens will be stillborn, although she seems perfectly healthy, and I feed her well. Any advice or links would be much appreciated!

I've heard philodendrons are poisonous to cats, but I bought a spray at Petco that is supposed to make things taste bitter to discourage chewing. Is that enough? How poisonous are they really?

i ask as i am thinking of buying new faux leather sofas ,as i have purchased a faux leather footstool this weekend and my cats havent strached it which is amazing,as all my material furniture is strached with great big holes in(i have to cover the sofas with throws ,which is the bane of my life to keep straightening all the time!).
fyi i have cat straching posts etc ,my four cats have access to the outside aswell.
if your cats do stratch faux leather/leather sofas ,have you found a sofa material that they will leave alone?
btw i will only use faux leather as im veggie
thanks :)

lol, i know sounds weird doesn't it? well he's two and he purrs when he does it, but he finds a finger and does it kinda agressively but playful, he's not angry just likes to find a finger lick it and then chew on it? what is he doing that for? no there's no food on my fingers either. He wakes me up that way. Also follows me into the bathroom and tries to chew on my fingers. It's ver strange behavior.

He's lost at least 5 pounds. He eats, but doesn't gain. I wormed him with store bought meds and that didn't help.He licks the bathroom door that's painted who knows when with flat paint. He used to tear his hair out but when I stopped the cat treats he quit. He is 8 years old and neutered long ago. he's eating the same food and dry food.

My cat has become really lethargic the past 2 days. He vomitted 2 times, shows no interest in food. All the time he's is been drooling and from time to tim his jaws tremble, he opens them a bit and then he has a nerve tick. For the last month he drink too much water and urinates a lot.
I took him to the vet , but they said it was old age. Do you know what might be causing my cat's state ? Thank you!

my cat is a mostly outdoor cat except in the winter(which is now!) and he got sprayed by a skunk. could you please tell me how to get rid of it without forcing my cat to take a bath?

P.S. my cat has NEVER had a bath and he can't handle even getting sprayed by water or anything. There are alot of different formulas for getting rid of the odor but they all need water for rinsing.

I am unable to afford expensive veterinary care. His breathing has become increasingly worse. He is coughing up and sneezing. He is not getting better only worse. He has been in my family for seven years. I do not want to compromise his care due to wages. I have called several animal shelters. They are unable to help. I do not know this area. Will someone please tell me where I am able to go???

http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-500-cats-in-barcelona-spain.html

More than 500 abandoned cats live on land where the construction of the high speed train tracks between Madrid and Barcelona will soon begin. The cats suffer from cold, hunger and mistreatment, and the City Council of Barcelona hasn't done anything to resolve this problem. Many cats have been killed in the course of earlier public projects in Barcelona, and we want to avoid another massacre. However, the City council has ignored our petition and the local media sarcastically claim that the cats live happily along this route and that are other more important things for the local council to discuss. If we can't get concrete promise to create controlled cat colonies and to do TN"R" (trap-neuter-"return to safe places") soon, most of the cats will be killed by the construction works or by the insensible people who poison these poor animals.

Do you visit Barcelona?

My 8 yr old cat thinks my bed is hers. She bites when I get in bed & stops when I get out. What should I do? She loves to cuddle when watching TV. She loves being brushed. When I sit on the edge of the bed, she begins "stalking" me then her ears go back and she attacks my legs and ankles before they go under the covers. Once I am in bed, she will scratch my head, when my hands appear to lower the covers, she bites them. When I get up to clean the bites, she follows me and rubs my legs like a normal cat. If I attempt to get in bed, the attacks start again. She is happy if I don't go back to bed. She then crawls under the covers and sleeps. This is getting worse I am now only getting about 4 hours sleep at night and I am wearing about 6 band-aids. What should I do. Using a water bottle when I'm not awake and not wearing my glasses could do damage to wood floors and electronics. HELP!
