My husband and I thought that our one year old house cat was just shedding excessively. Today, we saw our cat pulling hair from his back with his mouth. I have heard of cats doing this because of being nervous, but he is a happy cat and loves to play. He seems to have no worries, should I be concerned or take him to the vet?

yes vet. it could be skin problems or food allergies. take him very soon. i adopted a cat that was almost compleatly bald by the time i got him from food allergies.

never put a flea collar on your cat. they are bad enough as it is for cats with out skin issues because they eat away at and burn the skin. also they are useless. all they do is keep the fleas away from your cats head to give the illusion of no fleas. Check with the vet. i doubt he has fleas but you want to make sure to get a gental treatment for your cat because of the discomfort he already has/.

It could be some allergy - possibly to fleas like someone else said, but it might also be to something in his food. Or it could be a skin problem such as a fungus. Or it could be psychological after all - maybe something makes him nervous and the pulling-out is how he compensates, so he can seme happy the rest of the time.

It's impossible to diagnose this over the internet. The only way to know for sure is to take him to the vet. Good luck! :)

My mom had a canine that ripped out his hair via ringworm. ought to this be your problem? Or he would have an hypersensitive reaction to the fleas, flea medicine, nutrition, etc. or possibly he's merely nevertheless fearful about his new homestead. Cats are very solid at hiding ailment as i'm certain you understand, so it would properly be a volume issues. ascertain even as your treating for fleas, you no longer merely manage the puppy, although the realm they sleep in too. possibly try washing/cleansing each and each of the aspects the cats opt for to sleep in. those aspects are in a great number of cases coated in flea mites. If all else fails, absolutely see a vet. solid success!

My cat did that for a while after I adopted him from the pound. I think he was just stressed out. Sometimes cats do that if something in their environment changes. He could also have fleas or a patch of dry skin.

It is spring. He is shedding heavy now and he wants his spring coat.

You should brush him and that will help.
