Cats - March 2007

My new cat is in the basement all day. She doesn't go out unless it's to eat or drink. When we take her out and hold her on our laps in the Living room, she's okay, she even purrs. She's seven months old and has been spayed. She's been with us since Monday night (we got her from a shelter). Our other cat doesn't have a problem with the new cat, so I don't understand why she's doing this? How can I get her to get used to us?

And if I get them neutered, will they lose their "masculine appearance" from behind? In other words, will their balls still "stick out"? Sorry, I don't mean to sound kinky.

I find them to be the most beautiful, caring compassionate animals I've ever known. Yet some people absolutely HATE them! Why do so many people hate cats?

My calico kitten is in heat and I need to know what should I do in the mean time. I know that I have to get her fixed, but for the time being, is there anything that I should do to try to make her feel better?

I have an indoor-only Calico kitty that is 8 months old. Whenever people come to visit she "runs for her life" and hides.

Is this a trait unique to Calicos?

She is very affectionate with me!

My two cats, who need their claws, enjoy scracthing the furniture. They have many toys that are meant for their scratching enjoyment, but they aren't satisfied with just those. I use a squirt bottle of water every time I catch them in the act, but I'm not always home. I have heard poor things about plastic guards and sprays that don't work. Have any of you had success with other methods?

They have a scratching post, a "kitty condo" covered in carpet, a sisal bag, cardboard, and a large stuffed animal (meant for cats and holds catnip).

She has been spayed/vaccinated and is kept inside and has not been introduced to any new cats. All of my other cats are spayed/vaccinated.
She has always been a "weirdo". Kind of cranky, growls, hisses when you pick her up, nice one second running away mad the next. We chalked it up to her being "moody" or "weird". We don't know her previous history being a former stray and all. She is a little over a year old.
She also chases her tail, bites it and growls while doing it. That is a thing she does every so often.
Over the past few days she has been doing it multiple times a day and had had diahrrehea and a runny eye. You can also see her 3rd eyelid and she is very tired and lazy.
I have an appt. for Monday btw. The vet tech could hear her growling/hissing over the phone and was concerned for her too.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? I thought about Rabies but she was vaccinated and has never been exposed to an un-vaccinated cat since October.

and i dont know what attacked him, but his nose got bitten off and his ear is all messed up. He is an outside cat, and i have one that is an indoor cat. Well they have never been around one another and now they are both inside and the one who lives inside hates the one from outside. My question is, is there anything i need to know to take care of the injured cat, and is there anything i can to to make them get along.

I have no idea what is going on with my 6 month old kitten but recently (within the last few days) she's been moaning some VERY deep and loud moans. is she going into heat?? i havn't neutered her yet because they told me I should wait till she's around 6 months so i am having her neutered within the next 2 weeks. i'm just not sure if there is something else wrong with her. she has been going to the bathroom quite a lot and mainly peeing. she doesn't drink a ton of water (or at least what I see her drink). Do you think she could have some time of bladder infection that causes her to moan in pain?? she doesn't moan when she's sleeping or whenever I pick her up and cuddle with her. I dont think she's lonely or anything but maybe she wants even more attention??? AH! I don't know! please help if anyone has any ideas! I'm sure my kitten will feel a lot better if I knew what really was going on! :) THANK you!

I've noticed this happen quite a few times to two of my cats. Once in a while, they would be fine, then the next minute they start walking backwards, like they are under something they don't like or there is something on their paws that are bothering them. As they are stepping back, they look cautiously around their front paws. Does any one know the problem? Or is it just a cat instinct?
