And if I get them neutered, will they lose their "masculine appearance" from behind? In other words, will their balls still "stick out"? Sorry, I don't mean to sound kinky.

Around 6 months...get males neutered or they'll not only start spraying but will wander off for miles in search of females and often never get back home.

The rear area won't look quite so obviously male!

Usually around 6 months is when they start spraying. It is a labor intensive task cleaning up after a spraying little devil!

Their little "jingle-jangles" will deflate (for lack of a better word) but they are still there for the world to gaze upon. No one doubts their sex.

I have a 16pd. tomcat named Tom. He is HUDGE. His head is bigger than a large grapefruit! That is big btw.
He is a rescue cat I found on the street in front of my house.

When he was neutered we were laughing because he had HUDGE ones that "bounced" when he walked and now they are cute little deflated olives.

Besides the size of neutered cat "jingle-jangles" does not matter in the least. I'd rather giggle at the size of his little deflated grapes than put him at life long risk of health problems not to mention the roaming and fighting.

No, they are still masculine regardless being altered.. Surprisingly , They can still be sexually active with female cats even after being altered, they just wouldn't have the urge to spray everywhere.

A male kitten will start becoming sexually active around 5 months.

male cats can start spraying from the ages of 5 months to a year. but please get your cat neutered. male cats will go out seeking female cats and get in fights with other male cats and that is how feline aides and leukemia is passed on. also there are vaccinations against these diseases. and they are things callled nuticles that can replace the testicles for that "masculine look" at the clinic where i work , we've never used them but they are available.

They will not stick out as much, but if you really like the appearance of your cat's balls sticking out there are implants available on the market. Here is a link: http://www.petplace.com/cats/neuticles-testicular-implants-for-cats/page1.aspx

Most of my kittens start spraying around 6-7 months - my current one still sprays even though he is neutered :-( -but only on catnip.
