Cats - March 2007

around september last year, a wild cat came to our house looking for food. You could tell it was pregnant, and we fed it. It kept coming back and coming back, and one day it had her kittens. 4 of the 5 went off on their own, and the runt of the litter stayed in our screen porch with his mom. 3 months later, another cat showed up, and mated with the mom. She had her second litter 5 weeks ago, 4 adorable kittens. The original kitten tried to kill them so we put him out on the porch. We've started to pet the kittens and hold them, as the mom lets us. 3 of the 4 meow for their mother when we hold them. We are going to keep one, and adopt the other 3 out. the one we're going to keep is a little smaller than the rest. It likes me the best, and it is the cutest of the bunch. I'm just very worried, as it makes no noise at all unlike the other kittens. It does not meow for its mother, or even purr..Is there something wrong with it? it IS slightly smaller, so has it not developed its voice yet?

I've got a mostly insane 4 month old kitten...at the moment, he's going crazy over frozen peas. He'll play with them for 10 minutes before scoffing them down - will they be bad for his health?

ok, im 38 weeks pregnant, and all of the sudden my oldest cat is attacking me, and really not listening, he use to be really good, never got on the table, and he taught our kitten to behave, like mothering or something, but as i near labour, he has gotten so crazy, like we got him neutered forever ago, so i dont think that would hit him now...and im afraid of having a baby, and him acting like this, i mean he literally jumps out from no where and bites onto me, and wont let go, whats wrong with him? my kitten started doing this shortly after, and im afraid ill have to get rid of them if they dotn stop, the water bottle method doesnt work, and the older cat keeps running into my room under my bed, or jumps in the babies bassinet, and i want it to stop, we keep the bedroom door closed, its just when im trying to put landry in there, he sneaks in, please any advice

She could of have been let out during the day with the babysitter. What are some syptoms

My 8 month old cat seems to have a lot of siamese qualities. She is tortie shell, very long and lanky with big ears and eyes. She is extremely vocal and sounds like a baby crying, and super affectionate and bratty, her mother was not a siamese and i dont know what the chances of the mother running into a male un-nuetured siamese pure bread just roaming around in the country. i could post a pic but im not sure how. thanks

I rescued two cats yesterday (female 5 months male 7 months). The male comes running out of hiding when I visit them (they have their own room for now). She is very shy still and hasn't moved from under the couch as far as I know. Should I worry about her not eating at this point? I have just been leaving food out for them. Should I pick it up and only offer a few times a day to see if she comes out? Any suggestions would be great.

i live on a busy road, and my cat recently got hit by a car and died. i like the affection and attention, and, although i miss him terribly, i feel its time to gat another one. The only problem is that i dont want my new cat running out onto the road, but mu backyard is to small for a cat run. Ive heard that you can keep at cat inside if theyve never been out, but i tried that with my cat, and it didnt really work, that, and the kitty-litter doesnt decompose very well in the garden. are some breeds of cat beter inside than others, and is it different for males and females? also, what type of kitty-litter should i use, and how should i dispose of it?

...Delilah's recently started excessively grooming to the point of self-mutilation(!). The vet said it's a trait common in Siamese & Abyssinian breeds. He also said she might need a kitty anti-Obsessive Compulsive Disorder medication! How much does that sort kind of med cost for an animal?

Hi. Can any of you give me some advice?

My little cat, Pippin, is nearly 8 months old and she seems to think I am her mother. It's very bizarre.

To cut a long story short, my housemates' cat had 2 litters: the first gave us Merry, my 14 month old cat, and the 2nd brought 4 babies. When my housemates moved away last August, my fiance and I kept Merry, and two of the little ones, Pippin and Pepper.

They were all fine until December, when Pippin suddenly became very clingy. At night she sleeps snuggled up with me, which is cool... until she starts LICKING MY ARMPIT AND CHEWING MY HAIR.

Why on earth is she doing this? I've had cats all my life, and I have never had one who behaved like this. Is she suddenly missing her mum after all this time? What can I do to stop her trying to 'groom' me like this? I love her to bits but she's driving me potty!

I am contemplating relocating from California to Southern England, flying LAX - Gatwick. then a train. I will not leave my cat behind and she'll travel with me. I know she'll be drugged. Has anyone traveled this distance with their pet? I have not yet spoken to the vet about how long the drugs last and how to keep her in a drowsy state.

My male cat keeps getting into all the toilet paper and tearing it to bits. I have tried trimming his claws back, scolding him and every other kind of non-abusive punishment I can think of all to no avail. He is not old enough yet to have neutered so that is not an option at this point. Please help before my husband takes the kitty to the shelter.
