IF the cat is having a problem with a hairball then you need to give her some pancake syrup or some butter or even a little vasoline rubbed on her tongue. {you can rub on the top of her front feet & she will clean them off thereby eating the "cure"}
There are several medications available at pet/feed stores {as well as the vets office} that you can give her. These meds are flavored and most animals will eat it without a problem.
Even if this is just a hairball problem you need to do several things; for one, PLEASE learn how to do the heimlich for cats:
http://www.petplace.com/cats/heimlich-for-your-cat/page1.aspx
You should also brush your cat regularly even if it is a short hair variety, if the cat is grooming excessively then you need to provide some sort of entertainment in the way of toys or even videos of birds, fish, etc., they will groom if bored or stressed.
A large hairball in the stomach can actually cause the intestines to become blocked and then follows a seious medical procedure to save the cats life.
Everyone with a pet should know some of these basic care lessons as well as their pet's NORMAL temp; when you call a vet for an app't for a sick animal please don't say I THINK he has a fever cuz his nose is dry! Take their temp so you will KNOW when your pet is in serious trouble.
Sometimes a cat's temp goes DOWN when they are sick {such as with FUS} and it can absolutely make the difference between life & death in the case of FUS in as little as 24 hours!

She could be swallowing a hairball. If you can get the kitten to lie still, reach in with your finger very gently into her mouth and see if there is a hairball. Thats common in kittens after cleaning themselves.
see if she will drink a little water also. That might help topass the hairball.

if your cat really is choking and not hacking(if hacking it could be a hairball or she has worms) the only think you can do is clean the edge of the nose out gently with your nails (if it has dry clumps around the nostril) and put your mouth around her mouth and nose and breath small amounts of air in. basic infant cpr. this is only if the cat is not breathing at all and is not making any kind of noise. while you are giving the cat cpr you should have some one driving you and your cat to the vet.

Call the vet and ask him what to do. Describe what the cat is doing to the vet. Everything will be ok, just call the vet.

I am confused. How are people here going to stop your cat from choking? It needs to see the vet.

Observe her constantly...She might just have a hairball, if you start seeing bunches of food and hair together then its hairball...
you should make sure she is getting groomed properly every week to help eliminate hairball, and make sure your house is kitty proof because cats are curious and could swallow dangerous objects

if it seems to be a hairball, you can put a little dab of butter on it's paw. the cat will lick it up and it will loosen up whatever is in there.
