Consider getting a different water bowl. Some cats, believe it or not, are very finicky about their water dishes. If the bowl is too shallow or the water level is not high enough for their liking, they will sometimes put their foot inside to raise the water level or to drink by licking the water off their paws. If the bowl is not wide enough they may dislike the feel of the bowl on their whiskers when they take a drink. In a nutshell, you need to find the right water bowl for them. A great water dish is made by Petmate and is called "Fresh Flow". It's higher in the back than in the front and is nice and wide. Check it out at http://www.petmate.com/Catalog.plx?ID=1521 . You should also get a rubber "catch mat" to put underneath the water dish so that the water your cat spills is contained. Check out the Waterhog at http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?storeId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1&categoryId=40132&productId=601725&qs=5090277-PrfmcsDealTime_104589008 . Good luck.

I have the same problem! It makes me crazy, and the funny thing is, he's 2 and 1/2 years-old and just started this a few months ago. I put other water bowls in various parts of the house, and this has helped. Both of my cats love to play in any and all water. Good luck.

hehe, welcome to the unusual worldwide of cats! i think of that's between the cutest (and stressful!) features i've got heard in an prolonged time! 17 years of habit-do you certainly need to attempt and smash that deep of a habit? If it fairly is innocuous then basically settle for it. ask your self what he'd do with an icecube interior the water? you may desire to attempt utilising a variety of 'rabbit' variety water bottles the place he'd could desire to lick on the spout. Or attempt placing his bowl interior the tub/bathe or sink so his splashes bypass down the drain instead of on your floor. Set a thick folded towel under the water bowls so a minimum of it fairly isn't any longer all over the floor?

Cats dont like things that touch their whiskers. He is splashing the water out of the dish, because he thinks that it will be easier to drink. My cat does the same thing. Get him a dish that is wide and has low sides. That should solve the problem.

I had a cat like that. I bought a children's plastic bucket (big one) and stuck it in the bathtub filled to the brim. He could play and splash all he wanted and it was easy for us to dump and refill with fresh water any time anyone took a shower or bath.

I found this water dish (see link) and I thought it was a neat idea. I was thinking of getting one for my cat who will not stop drinking from the toilet, faucets, and anything else that's not her water dish! This would probably work for your situation too because your cat wouldn't be able to splash around the running water (as much).

I put a cup of water in my bathroom for my cat, and I fill it every day. She dosen't splash in it because the cup is way too small for her to fit in it.
Hope this helps!

you can put a large rock in the middle of the bowl and would obstruct his pool. He probebly likes his own image reflecting there. Most cats are vain that way. My brother Rocky told me this works and he knows. He's always after the cats,.........

I have the same problem with my cat, except she's a sloppy eater...lol. Put and absorbant mat or towel under his water dish, and that will soak up anything he spills.
