I have an indoor-only Calico kitty that is 8 months old. Whenever people come to visit she "runs for her life" and hides.

Is this a trait unique to Calicos?

She is very affectionate with me!

Because calico is more often a color attribute and not a breed, shyness isn't a specific trait. If your cat were a breed (like American Shorthair) you could then attribute certain personality traits to it. But, to answer your question, no, it's a trait that isn't your cat's color's fault (: Your cat wasn't socialized properly as a kitten and now she's afraid of new things. Cats as a rule generally don't like change, so if she didn't see strangers often as a kitten, they're a new unpleasant change. You can probably socialize her by having one friend in particular visit everyday until your cat becomes used to her, and then do the same again and again with differen people until your cat is comfortable. It will take a lot of time and effort though.

It is not specifice to calicos. I have two and one runs and hides and will not come out at all until all visitors are gone. The other comes out and checks everyone out, and is affectionate towards the people she likes, and smacks the ones she doesn't. Every cat has it's own personality.

It's not a trait specific to calicos, but specific to your cat.

Some cats are just shy with strangers. Sounds like you have one of them.

"Calico" is a term to describe the markings on a cat. It is not a breed.

I have a cat with Calico markings and she loves new people.

I have another cat that doesn't like anyone.

No, it isn't. Some cats are just TT (terminally terrified). I have a couple like that and they are male and not calicos.
