I find them to be the most beautiful, caring compassionate animals I've ever known. Yet some people absolutely HATE them! Why do so many people hate cats?

Some people just don't see cats in the same light we do. They are very intelligent animals who can be very affectionate to their pet humans . . . I mean owners. We have 5 cats and think they're the greatest little critters in the world!

For lots of reasons. Some folks are superstitious (some don't even realize they are). At some point in history cats were thought to be the devil and were killed, so the rodent population booms (and brought on the Black Plague, tra-la). Some people just don't like animals that get underfoot, which cats will do when they want your attention. There's the control thing--cats can be independent and have a mind of their own and many people want their pets to fawn at them, do their bidding, respond to commands as dogs do. Cats in general are not pack animals so feel no need to do tricks or bring your slippers or whatever. Cats also can get along without humans, which some people find totally unacceptable. My mom used to hate cats because the only ones she ever knew were half wild, brought home fleas, were usually kind of dirty from being outside all the time, would come home torn up (and most died since no one ever considered a cat was worth the price of vet care) and/or pregnant, would shed on everything, would bring inside the house live mice/birds/bugs/etc., and would jump on the food-prep surfaces. But once she met my cats, she's reconsidered and was surprised that cats could be so soft and clean all the time, well mannered (mine don't get on the counters and eating tables), respond and are demonstrably affectionate to me, come when called--plus their catbox never reeks (another thing mom never liked). My dad hates dogs. And I love them all.

The reaso i think of a few dogs hate some cats is as a results of the fact they think of the cat is extra advantageous than them. according to danger the owner spends extra time with the cat then they do with the dogs so the dogs feels lonely and sounds like hes not enjoyed by potential of you. Uum some dogs like some cats and vise-versa. whilst you're having this situation than attempt loving on your dogs mor and slightly les on the cat

Because so many people have put with so much **** from cats. And usually, it's people like you who nauseate non-cat lovers with your overbearing "I wuuuv cats" crap and letting your stupid cats run loose and crap and piss all over people's property that make things ten times worse.

Because of different personalities and tolerance. Maybe some people think ., They scratch to much, they stink really bad, they are boring and just sit around all the time. Depends on the cat too. Opinions are a major factor also.

The problem is cat haters have a mind-set that does not allow them to even get to know what a cat really is. I used to dislike dogs until my wife got a Boston Terrier pup for a birthday present. What was I supposed to do, throw it out on the street? No. I changed my mind-set and got to know what dogs are. We get along just fine now. Since then another dog invaded. Now that big brute with a dangerous tail is another story! I'm not crazy about him by any means but we are both travelers on the planet Earth so I give him respect and a lot of room because he needs it! He actually likes me though I keep him at a distance and if I dared to return the affection, he would knock me to the ground and lick me to death so I avoid that! Point is, cat haters have that mind-set and that is all they have because they refuse to consider any other alternative. They have a pre-conceived idea what cat is, and they never give themselves enough options to discover they might be wrong let alone trying to understand a cat, and believe me, a cat is a sensitive, beautiful and mysterious fellow traveler. Every creature has it's place and perhaps anyone who can't realize that is actually the one who is out of place. By the way. We have 3 cats and they get along great with the dogs. Too bad humans can't take that lesson, put it in their collective pipes and smoke it!

Someone mentioned a control issue. I agree with that because dogs will come when called and dogs are trainable. More than cats. Cats are not ones to be rolling over for a bone.

Dog owners enjoy the ritual of training their dogs. Whereas cat owners appreciate the quiet, low maintenance life of a cat.

Keep a cat healthy and fed and watered and loved and they are good to go.

A dog needs ton of hands on attention that some people are really into. They picked a dog just for that. They want to play with the dog, wrestle with it, walk it, have it guard them, etc.

Cats can be "standoffish" too. 9x out of 10 they want to be alone. They will sit in your line of vision but they don't want to be mauled by you.
Cats are not into rolling around and drooling on your hand and chasing a Frisbee.

It may not be a "hate" thing it is most likely a preference thing.

Although some wack a doodles truly HATE cats for whatever illogical reason they have. Hey, more cats for us true cat aficionados!

Regardless BOTH animals are awesome and need to be treated with respect.

If you ever see a cat or dog in a dangerous situation or suspect neglect/abuse please call animal control asap! If it is a cat and your a dog person don't allow a preference thing to keep an innocent animal in danger.

Maybe the person has a phobia or some kind of religous belief.

I think the people that hate cats, are the people that have control issues. You cannot control a cat, and really, it is up to the cat to decide if you will be it's owner.

I love that sense of independence they have. and as for loyalty, I have had cats that have been very loyal companions throughout the years.

I have no clue. My aunt hates my little Annie for no reason. They just have no pet style.
