I've heard philodendrons are poisonous to cats, but I bought a spray at Petco that is supposed to make things taste bitter to discourage chewing. Is that enough? How poisonous are they really?

Some cats will chew on plants and others won't touch them. Kittens may like to experiment with the taste. So watch the cat carefully and use the bitter spray and things should be OK.

You can buy special kitty grass a lot of places - pet stores and even some grocery stores. The cat will like that better if it has a taste for "greens".

I think it would be ok to try bitter spray on the plant. Usually cats will find plants entertaining and you may find that she/he will bat at your philodendron and not chew on it. She/he may bite at it while playing and discover it tastes terrible. Until you are sure, I would not leave the plant in the cats reach while you are out. Remember the bitter spray may cause a burn on your philodendron and spot the leaves.

Put the plant in a hanging planter and put it up high if you are worried.
I have always had philodendrons and cats and no one is dead yet.
Pointsettias are the most poisonous to cats, so don't get one at Christmas.

you have to either get rid of the plant or put it somewhere where your cat absolutely can't get at it. the poison in the plant can work very quickly if even a small amount is ingested.

It will kill them please throw it away, get a list of poisonous plants and don' get any of them. It does damage to their organs like their kidneys and liver and when they stop working they die.
