Marking the territory involves the spraying of urine and the deposition of pheromones from glands strategically located on your cat's body. These glands are located in the facial area, around the tail region and even in the foot pads. Researchers in France have identified more than seventeen different substances acting as chemical markers — pheromones — in cats.
Another common form of territorial marking, urine spraying, is often stimulated by new visual or olfactory cues introduced into your cat's environment. Seeing or smelling a visiting cat outdoors, new furniture, a new pet or a stranger in the house could be sufficient reason for your cat to "spray" in an attempt to define boundaries and confirm his social standing.

Spraying is basically the male cat peeing on something in order to tell the world "back off, bitches, this is mine!". It usually starts to happen when the cat reaches about 6/7 months of age. It will not stop until you get him neutered. At 6 months you can (and definitely SHOULD) get him neutered. It is not expensive at all and will also calm the male cat down! Plus less poor little kittens in animal shelters = win win all round.
Hope this helps! :-)

cat pee and spraying is the same thing... the only difference is that when it pees in the litter box the litter helps cover the smell.... But say if a cat pees on the carpet then yes it smells the same if not worse than when they spray (since they pee more than they spray).. i hope this was helpful!!

unneutered male cats have very strong smelling urine, there is no differnence in it if the spray or pee in the litter box (as mentioned the smell will smell worse when sprayed as the litter isnt absorbing odor)
female urine is different.
neutered male urine is different.
for the overall health of your cat, unless he is purebred registered and of show quality -- he should be neutered.
