My bird, a lovebird, has been doing this weird thing where he nods his head up and down and then seems to try to gag something up. He will sometimes scratch his beek and then he will open his beek and stretch out his neck as if he is trying to get something out of his throat. He is about 4 years old and i need to know if i should make an appointment with the vet or not. has anyone else ever had this problem? PLEASE, i really need to know whether this is bad or not. Please help! Thanks!

My zebra finches are about to lay eggs and I was wondering how much nesting material they need. I gave them a box of the Ultracare nesting material and they've used the whole box already. They keep trying to put a stick of that spray millet stuff in the nest. I don't know if they need more or not, because I heard that too much material will bury the eggs too deep so the mother won't be able to keep them warm.

I know some of them were doing the preening and grooming thing, but I wasn't sure why all of them except maybe 2 in the pet store were all crowded together, some sleeping, etc. I mean they didn't even have room to squirm. It was like they had all been glued together, they were that close. It didn't seem cold in the building, and the other enclosures with birds had no clustering behavior. What gives?

I have birds and I am very worried. I clean the cages out on every weekend, and I change the water/food daily and they get baths every day, along with alot of cage outtings. I wanted to do the cage cleaning on sunday, and I did it today, and I saw this small, light black bug, around mabey one or two mm.'s witch has this horm comeing out from it's nose and at the end, it split into two and went right to left... I am not sure, is this bug harmful to the birds? I made sure that I killed the bug.

I have a white parakeet, about a year. I think it is a male. When I bought him, I was told to supplement their seed diet with fruit, nuts, or veggies. However, I tried several different things and my parakeet doesn't eat anything but its seed. Any suggestions?

I had two parakeets, and today we took one up to have her beak trimmed, because it had overgrown. Sadly, she died. She was scared to death. The other parakeet, Phoebe is alive and lived in the same cage. They were very good friends. Will Phoebe get very depressed? Do I need to get her another companion?

I own a six year old cockatiel and well he is just plain mean. He's been like this since I got him (at the age of one) and despite my best efforts to try to get him to stop biting - it just doesn't work. I've tried handling him a lot, I've tried to place my hand at his belly so he'll get used to climbing on my hands ( mind you once he firgures out that they are my hands he'll bite me), I've tried removing mirrors out of his cage, I've tried wearing gloves (he gets scared and doesn't want to come onto my hand) - I've tried a lot of different things but he never seems to stop. He screeches when he sees my hands and lunges for them everytime I put them in the cage. I have never ever hurt him in any sort of way. I've come to the point where I've given up on even trying to handle him!!! Is there anything I can do?! Please help!!!

Is it ok if I put soil that is used for plants in the bottom of the cage? Will it give any health problems to my birds? If yes are there any other suggestions? My Alpha plan is to put compost to the bottom, covering the floor of the cage, planting some plants compatible with the birds and the droppings of the birds will have good effect on the soil. The seeds they drop will be food for them also as they will be sown(sow?) in the soil. and so on.. like a cycle you see.. any opinions or advices? thanks!

I once saw a humming bird in cornwall, it was almost like a large bee but with a long beak. This was near Perranporth, I was amazed as humming birds normally live in tropical conditions. I thought maybe it had escaped from the Eden project or Newquay zoo. Has anyone else in the world ever seen a humming bird other than in its natural habitat (and not in captivity)?

Every morning when i wake up there's a cardinal slamming into my back window...when I go there and open the window it goes to the front window. He also does this in the evenings and tries to get in my car sometimes. It used to be a starling and a mockingbird but now it's been a cardinal for a few months. Woo hooo scary...why do they do this?
