I recently got an invitation to a bridal shower that included a little poem that sweetly requested money rather than gifts. When I was a bride (38 years ago) that would have been unthinkable, but maybe etiquette has changed. HELP.

u didn't see it coming.

imagine that he/she didn't showed up on the wedding day. how to cover up the embarassment?

what is the best way to handle this. for bride/bridegroom, family, and guest

should we accept apology or let the supposed to be future spouse explained later on.

what should we do if it ever happen to us

I need help.
normally I would have no problem dropping 200 dollars for a wedding gift, esspecially for my sister in law.
I spent over 100 just on the shower.
plus my husband just picked up his tux (he is in the wedding)
and that was 140.00
we just had a major UNEXPECTED home repair and are seriously not able to afford a gift at this time.

would it be terribly rude to wait untill they returned from thier 2 week honeymoon to give them thier gift??
I feel like such a shmuck but we just don't have it to give it this saturday.

My 2 roomates and I were invited (in 1 invitation with our all our names on the envelope) to a friend's wedding.
Roomate #1 has enough money to travel to the wedding (even though she owes me money) and has already rsvp'd.
Roomate #2 and I are still trying to save enough $$ to make it. (RSVP is due in 2 weeks).
However, roomate #1 has somehow assumed that us two aren't going to make it, and has decided to bring her sister to the wedding. How can you just bring someone who wasn't invited? Isn't it sooo rude to decide she's going to take an extra seat intended for someone else?
I just feel so wronged, even if I can't make it!

We are planning on getting married in either Jamaica or Mexico next January. We were wondering if it is a better idea to go to the justice of peace and get legally married and just have a ceremony at our destination of choice or to just go and try and do it legally in a different country. If anyone has any experience with this or advice, please let us know! Thanks in advance.

I am looking for ideas for inexpensive but very elegant center pieces. I would really love to use candles. I would also like ideas that I could possible make myself.

Our family (me hubby and kids,3) was invited to a backyard wedding 4 a friend of my hubby, it's his 2nd. We origionally were not going 2 bring the kids but when we got the invitation it listed the kids names as well, so I RSVP'd for 5. When I asked my husband if my stepdaughter was going 2 be with us, he said "no, but your younger (13yrs old) brother is" it will still be 5 people so, no big deal. My DH called groom 2 give a courtesy call 2 let them know about the change & groom said "NO, Sorry! bro can't come!". We thought he was kidding but he repeated "No" again, DH told him that we have a problem w/leaving my bro home alone while we are out with the kids all night, &they said they would get back 2 us 2 let us know if he could come. Well I think that they r RUDE! what's the diff, it's still 5 people. Our gifts 2 them have ALWAYS reflected nicely. There R going 2 be kids there & they INVITED THE KIDS IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! I am offended & don't want to go, should we go? R they RUDE?

Do I have to have a ceremony, or can I just sign the paper and then be married? He's very shy and doesn't want to be the center of attention, so if we can sign the paper and then have a party, that would be awsome. So, can we do that? Legally?
I live in texas, by the way :)

My ex husband and I have been divorced since our son was about 1 year old. He has had little to do with him, except on his time and terms. I remarried when our son was abt 51/2yrs old and this man has been a true DAD to him, involved in his every day life. Our son, now 23, calls my husband almost every day they talk about anything and everything, they are very close. But now my son is getting married and all of a sudden my ex has tried to start getting involved again. Should he be expected to buck up for things for the wedding too? We are personally very tight on finances, and her parents are not too much better off. We (my husband and I) would just prefer he not even be there. But our son has wanted his approval all his life and is eating up the attention his father is paying him. What is ettiqute on this matter??? Please help!!

She wanted a pearl neckles and I had bought her one to have given to her the morning of the wedding but her parents ruined that and went and got her one this past weekend. She does not like jewelry that much. I want really bad to give her something special that morning and since we will only get married one time, this is my only chance.

Ok, be logical and rational (if you can)..I know is going to be a bit hard to do but try.

what exactly are the benefits for a man to get married? and be specific! don't give me this crap about good for his health , live longer etc. tell me what he will get that he couldn't get if he stay unmarried? let see how many of you take the challenge and answer in an intelligent manner.

Thank you!

I am getting married in about a year and I have a little problem. My family is straight up mexican, into the cowboy hats, dancing, mexican music and everything else mexican. My boyfriend on th eother hand is straight up white and his family is too. They arent into the dancing, loud music or anything else. I dont want him and his familiy or mine to feel out of place or anything like that . Give me some good ideas on how i should go about planning my wedding having two totally different cultures.

Okay, here's a good one for you all.
The Bride-to-be likes her Engagement ring. She always dreamt of another kind of ring though. People consider her to be a genuine person who is neither materialistic nor greedy. She plans on spending the rest of her life with this man. Is it wrong for the Bride-to-be to ask for the ring she really wants?

Now wait a minute! Just for the record before anyone attacks me for not being greatful for the ring period.....hold on!!! :)
I am taking a wedding etiquette cource at my local college and this is a question I have to answer. I would just like to get a poll of how people would handle this, and weather or not they would say something.
Thanks all!! I'll choose a best answer in a few hours!
