Hi everyone, OK so my fiancee's mom is driving us nuts. I am jewish and she is catholic. We decided to have a "Humanistic Jewish" wedding and now her mom is being unsupportive of it. How do we get her to understand that the wedding is cultural and not "religious" hence why we are doing the humanistic wedding. It's a generic wedding with lots traditions, and we are even including some Catholic traditions. Please help, this our first (and only) wedding we want everyone to have a good time and enjoy it. (It's too late to go to vegas our deposits are already in... we already thought of that... ) Thanks!

We have been together for 2 years, but nobody in that family has made any effort to get to know me.
They have kind of disowned him too! They never call him, even for christmas or birthdays. Last Xmas he waited up all night for a call, it never came!
His brother had a baby, nobody has told us about it at all. We found out from a family friend.
They still have contact with his ex girlfriends, they never even talk on the phone to me.
His exe's were uneducated, unemployed trash that cheated on him and hurt him constantly, but they love them. I have always been good to him.
His sister only told him she got married a month after the wedding.
I think they hate me coz he moved from Sydney to New Zealnd to be with me and left them all behind. But they don't even want to know what type of person I am.
I have done nothing wrong, what's wrong with me? why do they hate me?
I don't know what to do.
p.s. My fince has fully disowned them over all this.

the ones I know will come, or do i have to send an invite to all. Is it rude to have no children attend.

They wanted to send us to Vegas for a week to the tune of 800 to 1000 dollars. We don't like this idea and want an actual wedding. Not sure if it would be better in the spring or fall. Also, if anyone has any real life experience that would be great.

My younger brother is getting married next year, and I am wondering about bridesmaid and wedding "etiquette". I like my brother's future wife a lot, but I don't know her very well- I live on the east coast and they're in ohio, so I don't get to see them much at all. I have no idea if she's going to ask me to be a bridesmaid, but I am secretly hoping she does not. Not anything against her, I just really hate doing stuff like that, especially since I really don't know her. But in general, would it be considered rude of her to NOT ask me, since I am the future sister in law? As long as I get an invitation to the wedding, and I know I would, I will be not be offended if I'm not asked to be a bridesmaid! Just curious!

A relative married quickly after finding she was pregnant the baby is now over a year old. They did have a baby shower for her. Now she longs for the large wedding reception she did not have. It has been two years since the couple married. They are renting a hall and planning a reception this fall. Is a gift appropriate? I find this tacky. What do you think?

I'd like to get married on the beach with a few family members and close friends present, and then have a reception possibly at a restaurant on the beach or sound. I don't want to spend more than $1000 though! Is this feasible? Does anyone know of any locations in NC? Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated ~ Thanks!

I'm in college, and my best friend from high school asked me to be her Maid of Honor, but we grew up in New Mexico, she lives in Arizona now, and I'm in Colorado. She got engaged in February, but just this week she told me that she wants to have an engagment party and I'm supposed to throw it. She's getting married in October, and I'm working in Colorado all summer, "our" friends are mostly in New Mexico, and she and "her" friends are in Arizona. I've been trying to get a list of who she wants, and contact information, but she hasn't been very helpful. I'm not even sure who the other Brides Maids are! I can't even get a hold of her mom!

What should I do!?!?

My mom didn't have an engagment party, so she doesn't have any advice either.

HELP!

Reading many comments here I get the feeling that many people under 25 are already married and for e.g. Germany that seems to be quite young...

My fiance and I have set our sights on getting married in the Fall of 2008. Now we just have to decide where! I want somewhere that has a beautiful, leaf-changing Fall. So far we are considering the Biltmore in Asheville, NC as well as a few places in Portland and Northern California. Any suggestions for other beautiful locations for a Fall wedding? Thanks for any ideas!

Our reception comes with a 6 hour open bar... and the price per head does not change if we reduce the open bar time. My only concern is if this is way too long for alcohol and will people be falling all over the place?!? I want everyone to have a good time and party with us all night... but is this okay??

I scheduled our wedding rehearsal for 4:30 with the dinner catered at the same location at 6:00pm. At that point out of town guests and family will join the wedding party for dinner. Is an hour and a half long enough for the actual rehearsal portion? We have a wedding party of 16 and our soloist, organist and pastor will be there as well to walk through.

My sister has told me that she does not plan to have me as her matron of honor because I live too far away. I understand that she has a right to choose whomever she pleases. She's picking a friend who she has known for two years, and excluding me entirely -- as she claims that I can't be a bridesmaid because I am married (???). She is selecting her attendants as if it were a job interview, based on their ability to perform certain tasks, not on how close she is with them, or how appropriate their inclusion would be. I'm competent to perform these duties -- in fact, I used to work as an event planner. I feel that even though I live miles away, I can do 90% of the work, and everything on the day itself, and I hate to admit it, but I am seriously offended. We have always been pretty close, so that doesn't seem to be the issue. She served as my maid of honor while living far away -- I simply divided those duties among others who were closer, and let her have the appropriate "honor". So...?

We are planning to marry in a church and would like to have a small dinner and cake reception immediately following the ceremony in the church fellowship hall.

The problem is, our guest list runs well over 100 people of our immediate family, extended family, close friends (like family), other friends and aquaintances/ co-workers, etc.

We invited family and friends that we would like to attend our marriage ceremony, but would like to spend our dinner reception with our immediate family and close friends ONLY.

What is the etiquette on this, and how would we word that in an invitation insert so that only our CLOSE family and friends attend the dinner?

Just got engaged & am being a total girl looking at options, etc. =) but this stuff is WAY more expensive than I ever imagined! Can anyone give estimates on *approximate* prices for the following:
cake
food (catered, buffet style -not formal)
photographer
rental of chairs, tables, etc.
I live in Ohio, if location matters.
Thanks so much! I want to do a lot of it myself, to save money, but really don't want to skimp on what I have listed above.
