A guy asked me to be his date to a wedding on Saturday night. I do not know the bride or groom or anything about the wedding plans. The guy that asked me to go is standing in the wedding.

A mid calf dress or suit would be very appropriate. Do not wear sleeveless in a church for an evening wedding. If so, you should have a wrap to cover your shoulders. And no spaghetti straps. Apparently some people who responded here overlooked the fact that your date will be in formal wear.

Figure out how formal it is and then wear something not in the colors of the wedding. If it is a night wedding then a sun dress won't do. Usually semi-formal tea length dresses will get you by so i would go with that. Make sure it is comfortable and it is something you won't be awkward meeting strangers in. IE, just because it looks hot on a date, it doesn't mean it is appropriate for a wedding.

I guess it would depend on whether or not it is formal but it seems that since it is in the evening it would be formal. ask the guy what is the color scheme for the wedding. A nice spaghetti strapped dress that is knee length would be nice to wear to a wedding and if it gets chilly you can bring a nice wrap to cover your shoulders make sure that it accentuates your dress or accessories.

Something a little dressier than you would wear to a daytime wedding. A nice dress or skirt and top would be fine. Avoid unrelieved white, off-white, or black. White/off-white is for the bride and black is still associated in many minds with mourning.

Well, something formal obviously. A long halter dress? Anything will do, be sure not to wear anything in the "White Color" Family. Good luck and have fun

A nice dress that is any color other than white. You might want to avoid black, also, but considering that it is an evening wedding, this is generally accepted.

a simple mid calf length dress: its a saturday night so chances are its pretty formal.. is your date wearing a tux: if so than a floor length slim gown is appropriate.. just nothing with too much beading, glitter, too low cut, or a really exaggerated color

wear a cocktail dress of a solid color and simple design with simple jewelry... pearls if it's your taste or other, can't go wrong that way
